2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 6 years on stock antifreeze--Ok

Well I finally changed out my antifreeze. I just never seemed to make the time or effort. it was a little rusty looking, but not all that bad. I also pulled te radiator and cleaned it off. It was packed with alot of grease/oil/dirt. I had never moved the crankcase oil bottle in the last 6 years.

So now i have fresh Prestone Extended life antifreeze, a relocated crankcase vent, and a clean radiator. The mighty Cummins is happy

I also did the antifreeze Early Bronco too. hopefully will change the coolant in my wifes '65 F100 too. Might as well do em all at the same time.

No really, how did it go?? Did you check the t-stat too?? When I did mine at 25K miles (I make time for my truck) it was an ugly rusty color too. Did you flush the block like we talked about??

I can understand not being able to get to it. BUT SIX YEARS!

Well it's all done now. I'd just change out the T-Stat with one from Cummins - not one of those ones from the auto parts store. Make sure the air bleed hole is on the top when you install it.

I try to do mine every two years as suggested in the maintenance schedule. Next time I should probably pull the rad and clean the 150k miles and 7 years of "YUK" off of it.

I guess I'd have to say I'm just lazy. But at least I drive my truck. How many miles do you have on yours John? I think you just like driving your Ford 7. 3L better. :-laf



I did change the T-stat. Cummins didnt have one in stock, so I got a Napa heavy duty one, they claimed it was 190. I did put it in a pot of water, and it opened a little before boiling point, so it should be good. The water temperature gauge does run about 5-10 degreees cooler now.

When I bought my truck last summer, it had the factory antifreeze in it... 8 years old. It was rust brown. :--)

I flush and refill my antifreeze every year. It's pretty cheap and I plan on having this truck for a while.

Bob, that deal in Homer fell though. We are looking at one in trapper Creek now. Hopefully it works out, as all our stuff is packed up in boxes.
