yea man... . just finished installing a Northern Tools 60 gal. toolbox/tank combo at fellow TDR member Larry Willard's house today. . (saturday 10/13/01)... what a SWEET setup, the tank is using gravity feed into a fuel filter, followed by an electric fuel selector switch, into the 3/4" vapor port at the main tank.

MANY,MANY thanks to Larry for ALL his help,AND hospitality!!!

the work was performed at a leisurely pace, and with a lot of good-natured "fooling-around" :D ... we still had to make 2 extra trips to "the store" for forgotten/wrong parts... not too bad!

IMO this is a 1st rate/very clean setup, the tank/box combo appears to be of very high quality, and "fills the bill" perfectly for me..... "95gal" total capacity and storage to boot!!!... WHOOHOO

:D ... ... ... ..... tom;) YO LARRY... ..... "you da'man"

I'm thinking of puting in a similar setup and haven't fully decided how I want to plumb it in. I'm wondering, how long does it take to fill by gravity feed?

Dan

dan... . i've been told refill time will vary,i read some past threads on this website, and one fellow said it took about 45 min.

i haven't transferred a full tank as of yet,i,ll post an update as time goes by... i'm sure an electric fuel pump would speed things up,but it seemed an unnecessary expense at this time!;) take care... . tom:)

You'll love it

I have a 66 aux. tank. Sure is nice to pull the 5er almost two full days without haveing to worry about fuel. Of course it costs to fill it up but man the distance you can cover is almost unbelievable. I have traveled 1800 miles without getting fuel. On mine I flip a toggle switch and it transfers to the other tank. Glad you like it.

Yea that tank looks good. Enjoyed having Tom up and to help him with the install! Nothing like having some extra fuel and to buy it where it is cheaper. Went well and we had a lot of fun.

i used the original lighted toggle switch that came with my PacBrake,i mounted it just to the right of the steering column on the upper part of the knee bolster... i had to shape the inside a bit with a Dremel tool and cone shaped grinding wheel.

the location may not be perfect, but its in no danger of being bumped by accident, and i prefer the small light at the end of the switch!!!... ..... tom:D

Has anybody used a self closing valve to link the stock tank and the transfer tank? I would like get a transfer tank , but I do not want to deal with a selector switch.

I too had gravity feed on my auxiliary fuel tank and I finally got tired of guessing how fast it was transfering. It varied according to unknown circumstances. I purchased a small electric fuel pump and installed it ahead of the inline fuel filter I had previously installed. Works great and with a little trial and error I figured out how long it took to empty the extra tank. I have a cheap kitchen timer in the cab to let me know when to shut the pump off.

more fuel capacity

Wow, I installed a 500 gal. tank in my truck. I can now go for a year and a half before filling up again. that equates to 14,000 miles, without having to refuel. No, seriously, I had 90 gallon on my 92 , but it took up space in the bed, plus you can find diesel everywhere now, not like days of yore. I put in a transfer flow replacement tank that holds 54 Gal. and it left my bed alone, didn't have to relocate my spare or any thing. Slick set up. Jeez, what's wrong with having to pull over after 600 miles to refuel. Plus you're not lugging around all that weight??

Hemi

I like your idea and that fits my needs better. Where and how much was the tank you used??

I don't drive enough to have a need to spend the cash on something I would use only when on a trip.

I try to keep my fuel tank at least 3/4 full.

I have a beater truck that I drive most days and only drive my baby when I need to or on Fridays.

See Ya

Chris

CRUD???

Transfer flow is a huge Aux. tank manufacturer located in Chico, ca. Go to www.transferflow.com. Very easy to just pull your old tank and put in this larger, longer tank. New on the mkt. and should work out fine. everything stays as it is except the tank is just longer and deeper. GL
