HI All,

I am about to order an exhaust brake for my 1997 dodge and I know that the exhaust springs need to be upgraded to 60 lb springs

I was thinking that while I am in there maybe I should upgrade the intake springs as well (for possible installation of a GSK in the future).

Will I be shortening the life of the Cummins by installing the higher rate springs (in terms of camshaft lobe wear and maybe rocker arm wear etc...)?

Why did the 12 valves come with the lower rated springs and the 24 valves with the 60 lb springs?

Lastly, will upgrading upgrading the intake springs allow me to run higher boost or is boost going to be limited by head gasket strength (I really don't plan on going crazy with power but you never know!)?

Thanks!

Andrew

I believe manual 12 valves had 60 lb springs.

That is not correct. 24 valve engines came with 60 lb springs. My Jacobs exhaust brake kit included 60 lb springs. I've used them for over a million miles with no issues.
