Does anyone know any more about the new flash? Talked to DC about the sputtering problem and their reply was that was "normal". I had to count to ten. They clarified that normal meant that all the 600's had a "driveability" problem and a reflash due out in March may cure the situation (may being the key word here). Also stated was that the flash may or may not help the mileage concern (between 9-10 downhill with the wind). Does anyone out there have any hard information about a fix for these things, or are we supposed to live with it. It does not make a lot of sense to me to add an additional fueling event to help with emmissions and in turn the engine uses twice as much fuel but then again I've been told that I'm not the smartest person in the world either. GO FIGURE. Any good info would be appreciated

REFLASH available

Just got a call from my service mgr - reflash is out today. The flash is for the hesitation or stumbling at temp's under 30 degrees. which can also produce white smoke. Mine is going in tomorrow.

Mileage

GGades,

I hope your exagerating with those mileage figures. I have the automatic and get significantly better than that. My first tank was 15 mpg (420 miles/27. 3 gallons). Granted it was almost all highway miles but it did include Snoqualmie Pass on I-90, and the vast majority of it was at speeds of 75 or a little higher.

That's great news that the reflash is available already. Hopefully it will cure the problem, which I'm sure it will.

GGades, I'm wondering what mix of #1 and #2 diesel you guys up there in MN are using. That could possibly be affecting your fuel mileage. Normally, fuel mileage in the wintertime will be worse than during the summer just because of the fuel mix. Did you have a diesel prior to this one that you are comparing it against, running it in the same conditons?

I wouldn't use the overhead to calculate your mileage very much. There have been several threads about the inaccuracy of them. Doin' it by hand is about the closest you can get. If your gettin' an honest 9 mpg your either got a problem or your driving like Petter Solberg drives his Subaru rally car (bet it sure is fun though)!! Mines gettin' at least 19 and I ain't even got 2000 miles on it yet!

The TSB is 18-007-04 for engine hesitation. The temps were I live are in the low 60's, so I cannot tell if the reflash fixed the problem. HOWEVER, I have heard from another person that they STILL have the problem after the flash..... It is supposed to get cold this weekend, and if the truck still has the problem, I'm starting the lemon process. They still have no confirmed fix for the 70MPH vibration.

I get my fuel at the same place as GGades and put in Howes and my 03 gets from 14-18 mpg consistently and my overhead is very accurate

the overheads that are off are mostly on trucks running some kind of mod

went in for reflash yesterday. seems to have took care of problem. 250 mi. since and guage does not seem to be droping as fast. time will tell.

How long did it take for them to reflash it? I'm taking mine in next week to get done. Hope the MPG goes up some from the best tank so far 13. I definitely miss the power of my 01 so i need a box on it soon too.

I hope you mean you're putting that #1 in when it's 30 BELOW! Why would you mix any kerosene or #1 in unless it's extremely cold out? That will cut down your btu, mileage and power for sure.

Finally I got to drive in temps under 30 today. The reflash has fixed the hesitation problem. I did some driving over our high mountain passes and was very impressed with the performance : )

BTW the reflash takes about . 8 hrs according to TSB doc.
