Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) $6000 six speed?

Friends 5600 was locked in 2 gears, he took it to a dealer and they say it has a broken shift fork, also claim parts are not available for the 6 speed and quoted him $6000. 00 for a new trans. Are parts available from D/C? Are aftermarket parts available? I thought a new 5600 was less than $3000? I assume the dealer is trying to screw him

Just checked - Enterprise Engine parts list and they get $3200 exchange for the 1 3/8" input shaft NV5600, and $2800 for the 1 1/4" input shaft version.

If you want to dive in yourself then contact New Venture Gear for a place to buy the parts.



Whatever you do - Do not have the dealer do it unless it's free (Under warranty). There are much better independent shops out there if you look.

ON the other hand, that MIGHT be preferable to it failing on the way home with a bag of groceries...

Thanks guys, He will chase down these leads and a few more we found. The trans. just locked in 2 gears pulling into his yard, basically Gary's bag of groceries. The truck is stock no bombs, but less than perfect maintenance and used hard, well out of warranty. I wouldn't worry about this on your average truck, I assume a balky 3rd gear and a big arm

Six Speed Warrinty Work??

Has anyone had warrinty work on your 6-speed?? Mine crunches on the 3>4 shift when cold and always when I rev 3rd above 2500. It reads just like the TSB for this transmission. I have 28k on the truck and warrinty is up in 8k miles and one year. Can dealers really fix this? OR, should I double clutch 3>4 shift for the next 300,000 miles?

I would definitely try to get the dealer to fix it first if its very bad.

mine is at the dealer they say they cant me the parts for mine yet to fix the popping out of third gear and it is covered and so is there rental
