Tire Size Comparison & Gear Speed Calculators

The guys over at the dieselpage are planning on making a 600 hp 900 FTLB 6. 5. my ribs hurt from laughing so much. The only way there going to make that much HP is to drop a CUMMINS in it. That 6. 5 is only good for a boat anchor IMOP.

I hope this link works so you can read this stuff. Make sure your sitting down you will fall over with laughter.

I think that URL got mangled a little--what forum is it in over there?

It would seem to me that they'd have to have it turn some pretty high rpms to get that kind of horsepower out of a 6. 5, but what I don't know about 6. 5's would fill volumes...

Thanks,

Mike

600hp out of a 6.5

Hey, it could be done! Here's how:

First, add as much bombing stuff as you can to it, don't worry about over fueling or overheating because the fast reving 6. 5 will get up to power so quick.

Next, get it on a good quality dyno and put a fan in front of it.

Next, crank it up, walk it through the gears and then punch it to the floor and let the 6. 5 work it's magic... ... .

by my calculations, the connecting rod should come out of the oil pan at a force of about 600hp, maybe more!!

60k on a 300 hp 6. 5? Yup. Ok, those schmucks need to share that happy grass their smokin'. What the heck am I thinking? The 6. 5 is one of the best, most durable, powerful diesels ever made!!

They put those in semi's don't ya know. That is what is in all those chevys with huge trailers that we see flying by us as we go up the mountain. Yep, about 23 mpg with a 30k trailer. I seen it.

Now that's funny!

Heck ol' JB couldn't even get 300hp out of a 6. 5. Oh wait, the fan blowing on the IC is good for 90hp.

I can hardly contain myself.....

First off they are not talking about the Duramax, it is the old 6. 5. The Duradud already has made 550hp, and 600ft-lbs. This was from the fractory, and was the truck that went up Pikes Peak. It was heavily modified to say the least.

The funnyest thing I think I read was the first line of that link to the other site on that first page that said.....

Now that the Duramax has proven it can outperform the Powerstroke and ISB Cummins, more Ford and Dodge owners are saying that with a few power improvements, their trucks can equal the new GM diesel.

These people really think this stuff is true.

Then my favorite, "read the fine print" line... .

In late October 1999, we had an opportunity to run the 6. 5TD Project truck against a new Powerstroke and ISB Cummins.

So when they say new, they REALLY mean stock. That's how I read at least. Anybody else feel that way. So they ran a BOMBed truck against 2 new stock trucks. Real fair let me tell you.

you guys act like you're scared of them or something.

why do you even bother? I havent seen a ford or Chevy even come close to passing me YET! I have to pick on Cars.

this summer i drag raced mine for the first time (at the track anyway) there is a guy in our club that has a pretty tough looking, and runnning, Ford. to be honest i didnt know what to expect. nor did he, it was his first time too.

my first race was agianst a STOCK Ford CC 2x4. I launched thinking i would get even better traction than on the street right? wrong. . is spun so hard... , i short shifted into third still nothing, fourth, OK, were moving this is a half track the Ford left me like i was in reverse. at the end of the track i caught him and passed him for the win. nearly 2 seconds faster than he.

later in the day i got a chance to run the (tough) Ford, I was, lets just say concerned over, (HEE HEE, oooh) by then i figured out how to launch (still not in 4wd though) I spanked him pretty good (15. 59 to his 16. 23) and it was all on the top end. if the race hadnt only been a 1/4 mile he would have looked pretty dern bad.

the Dmax's arent even in the running they are about as fast as the first Ford i raced (18. 23)

now that i have a clutch that will hold, its even worse :D

that's neat, look at the little Duradud......

Jim,

If you follow all the links from the one link that was posted earlyer in this thread by DT, it tells this is the same one. It's great that GM is giving them the guns, this 6. 5 "Power project II" IS the Duramax from Pikes Peak. Had to go back and look, you were right, but notice the time of my post last night. Maybe I was too tired to pick up on that. (<--- that is silly looking, just had to say it!)

Anyways, lets just hope that they don't give them the software to reprogram the Duradud, or that 700hp is just a little reprograming away. :eek Plus think of the money that they could make from selling chips!

Boy that 6. 5 sure is an easy motor to modify,,

Check this quote from the original power project...

The process of modifying the 6. 5 began by fitting a set of Peninsular Diesel's 18:1 compression ratio pistons. These lower compression ratio pistons make it possible to safely increase boost pressure. Ford and Dodge already run with 17. 5:1 pistons, where the original 6. 5 pistons were at 21. 3:1. A lower compression ratio reduces the combustion flame temperature, and enhances durability.

Another...

To get a fuel-rate matching these boost pressure levels, we installed a 300 HP Peninsular marine DB2 fuel injection pump and matching hi-flow Bosch marine injectors.

And Another. .

GM's newest 6. 5 cooling system satisfied our engine cooling requirements by giving us an off-the-shelf 130-gpm water pump and high-flow dual thermostats. Now finally, the playing field was level.

Okay, New pistons, new injection pump, new injectors, new cooling system, dual thermostats, and an intercooler.

So NOW the playing field is Level ??? Looks like the Chevy boys have very deep pockets. All this just to compete with a stock PSD, and a Stock Cummins.

These guys are fun to watch. IMO, the 6. 5 belongs in a 1/2 ton truck, and ONLY in a half ton.

It is true... you have to modify a new Dodge to out pull a Duramax. I love Cummins but the truth is the Duramax will out anything a new Dodge. I'm definitely not scared yet... look at my sig

Jonathan has a point, the Dmax will out pull a stock Dodge and a stock Ford. Once bombed the balance is a lot different.

I would also suggest some modesty when talking big on your truck, there is someone in another brand out there that will spank you like a little girl and send you home if you look for him. 500 hp minimum before the big talk IMO.

well guys i live about 2hrs away from jim bigley so i'm sure i will be seeing there power project in the flesh. i hope it works out good for them. i will be drag racing it as soon as i can.

I used to own a 6.5TD K2500..

Back when I had my Chevy diesel, I thought that

getting over 10 PSI of boost would be great

and I had installed a set of gauges, boost and

pyro. The max boost I ever saw was about 7 PSI

stock. I researched intercoolers, but paying over

$1,000 for one with minimal gains because the

boost could not easily be increased was stupid.

So I kept it stock and drove it for 6 years until

I got smart and bought my first Dodge Ram Cummins

which was a 2001 3500 6x6 QC. HUGE difference.

I bought the Dodge the day after I test drove it.

Traded in the Chevy with no regrets whatsoever.

Best mileage I ever got with the Chevy diesel was

16 MPG, and the average I get out of my current

Ram (see sig, I traded the dually for a 2500 so

I could have more fun off-roading) the 2500 gets

around 20 MPG average and looks, sounds and runs

better than I ever dreamt the Chevy ever would.

I remember when MorePower was working on his

"project" 6. 5 and when I read the list of parts

he would need to hit his 300 HP goal (which he

has yet to show on a dyno) I could only laugh.

The new Chevy 2500HD with the Duramax and a six

speed MANUAL would be the only way I would have

one of those, but one look under the hood and

the thought of how much $$$ it would cost to have

any work done on the Duramax when the warranty is

out, slaps me back to reality! :D

Good point

You have a good point. I also have not seen any numbers suporting the clamed 300hp 6. 5. I even went as far as to sit in it and be taken for a drive (WAKE ME WHEN WE STOP) and it was no 300 hp truck believe me. My burb would have eaten it for breakfast, lunch and dinner, maybe thats why i poped it just not made for that level of hp. I doubt they will ever show any hp numbers for the 6. 5 or the maxipad pikes poop truck. They will be using a motor that was not built by JB or any diesel page member. Time will tell but if history repeats it self (like all GM diesels) the outcome will not be so good... ...

The 6. 5 belongs in a ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . er ummmmmm... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... .

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... metal recyling facility. Yep, that is the only place it wouldn't cause anyone grief. I was going to say Volkswagon, but then I remembered that they need to move and provide transportation. :{ :{ :{
