I was easily able to do a complete fluid exchange on my 11 HO DRW by popping the line at the front by the radiator. We tried this with my Son's 15 SRW AISIN and there was barely any fluid coming out.

Where do I separate a line that comes from the torque converter???

GS, no I don't just ant to drop the pan and change the filter and only part of the fluid!!!

I recently did the 60k service but I only had the filter/ fluid changed. Was it supposed to be flushed?

So......didn’t you do a PARTIAL FLUID CHANGE at the 30k service ? (Drain & Fill)

Ironically.....the FedEx guy just dropped off my case of Mobil 3309 about :05 ago. Everything is here to do my 60k service on my ol’ AS69RC.....new filter, gasket, and fluid.

Not sure why you’re sweating it......on my last sump filter change on The Radio Flyer, I had a 10.5 qt drain. New fill on a dry transmission is 13.74 quarts. I basically changed 76.419214% of the fluid. Radio Flyer’s AS69RC was great at 362k miles when I traded it to White Lightning.

One reason Is I am changing to AMZ/OIL and would like to get the most out possible.

So do you suck out the diff fluid or remove the cover?

Does anyone loosen the valve body to get mote out like we used to to with the 4 speed auto?

Calling TransEngineer!!!!!!!!!

The book says "Change automatic transmission fluid (AS69RC transmission only)" every 30k.

Also "Change automatic transmission fluid and filter(s)" every 120K.

To take this for what it says, all the fluid should be changed every 30k and then change the filter every 120k.

You’re obviously not looking at the DIESEL SUPPLEMENT. The DS plainly spells out 60k filter changes.

I’ll attach a thumbnail for ya, ‘cause we ALL know you like thumbnails best.

You probably have a Thermal Bypass Valve (TBV) in the cooler lines, between trans and cooler. That's why you didn't get any fluid flow (when cold). Look for an H-shaped block of aluminum in the middle of the cooler lines (likely near the trans). It should have four lines plugged into it (two going to the trans, two going to the cooler). Disconnect one of the lines between trans and TBV, and you should get flow.

SIR I greatly appreciate your help!!!

FYI, if you look at the cooler lines where they connect into the trans, one of the lines has a temperature sensor plumbed into it at or near the fitting. That is the "trans out" (to cooler) line. The other line is the return line. This will be helpful in determining (when you disconnect a line from the TBV) whether your fluid will be coming out of the line, or out of the TBV.

If you want complete fluid drain you will need to remove the dust cover to the TC drill and Tap the TC, drill the TC when full (YEP ITS Messy) then vacuum dry, buy TC drain plug. The TC holds about 1 US Gal. You can install Fumoto for ease of sampling. I give up on the forum software on Pic's Rotation.

Yours DOES state filter at 60k AISIN, my book is newer. What to believe??? Yours simply states change transmission fluid, where do you come up with pan ONLY??? Yours plainly as mine says "change transmission fluid" where does it say just the pan???

Same pic I posted Dec of 2015 when having this discussion. Clearly says 120k filter both trans unless the 68 is being used in severe conditions then it's 60k. Look at lines 4, 5 and 6 Right from maintenance chart Cummins Diesel engine pages 272 and 273.

It clearly states 30k change "FUID" AISIN. Also It clearly states 60k for 68rfe "ONLY" if severe service fluid and filter. Then it mentions changing the filter or filters and fluid at 120k, does not mention trans as it would clearly mean 68rfe once you have read the other lines as in normal operation NOT severe.

This is what MY book says!

Is there any specific location that's best? I would assume a 1/4" pipe thread plug like most I have seen.

Thank you for the additional info!

Quote from another Forum by Mr gsbrockman 8/2/14 talking about AISIN service.

"I'd have no problems with performing a flush on it. Most reputable shops with a flushing machine should have all of the necessary fittings. The method you mentioned would work.....just don't pumpit dry."

HMMMMMM, this is from the guy that has given me nothing but crap (I know he is having fun) about my resistance to a partial change.

I’m not going to spoon feed you. Google “RAM 3500 diesel supplement” for any model year you want. Yours is a misprint. Share with us what you find online and in addition to the Revision number of the online manual.

I could give a frog’s phat asssssss when you change YOUR filter. For me....I’ll continue to change my sump filter every 60k miles like my 2014 manual states and like my current 2018 manual states.

I simply stated what both say. Still where is the proof of pan drain only???

Personally I would not go 120k on the filter.

I know you are an “Old Dog” but lowering the crossmember is NOT needed. Simply buy a 1/4” drive 10mm Universal joint. I raised my trans (very simple) and used the socket to RnR the pan with zero difficulty.

I was planning to modify my crossmember but gave the new socket a try. EzCheezy!

But I am sure you won’t agree it’s easier than dropping the crossmember.

What no comment on your opinion from four years ago???

Ever hear of production tolerance? I’ve got to undo my trans mount and jack the transmission up to get at the rear pan bolts on my truck. That’s with 1/4 drive swivel sockets.
