Thanks Wayne.
I figured as much, as I was towing a fifth wheel when my OEM fuel-filter-mounted lift pump went out on my 04 truck at 6 years and $120K miles. Engine stopped dead, I limped off the hwy under no power, started it 2 times but it stalled upon drive engagement. Got towed to a diesel shop and had a FASS HPFP 95 installed. No looking back for the next 80K miles. The new frame mounted electric pump noise bothered me for about a year, but I got used to telling folks, "Yes, that's my High Performance fuel pump". The noise became a status symbol for me after that. :-laf

Ive read where the electric relay connector on the pump can get doused with diesel and become a poor connection over time. Easy to imagine pulling out a fuel filter and dropping fuel down the side of the pump and onto the connector.

In any case, my mechanic said I should not hesitate buying the truck now, and just fix the other issues when I get it. Hope to bargain down the dealer with that info.

Joe, any kind of fuel problem is cause for concern cuz it could be another $6000 to fix the problem. Don't believe that fuel starvation won't cause issues, it will big time. Consistently low pressure cavitates the gear rotor pump of the CP-3 until it beats itself to death sending filings all the way to the injectors, replacing the fuel system from CP-3 to injectors is not cheap.

The combination of ULSD and lack of additives will lead to build up on the fuel basket and low flow to the LP which in turn leads to issues under the hood. The ECU will compensate for low fuel flow by stretching duration and unless it gets so low it just runs out of fuel the operator will none the wiser. Some in-tank LP's can go bad for a variety of reasons. Short answer is you cannot discount problems until the symptom and root cause is resolved.

ANY question of low LP pressure and I would have several cross over tubes pulled and check for FOD in the edge filters to make sure there are no hidden issues. Again, upwards of $6000 to replace a fuel system is NOT want you want to deal with when paying a premium for a vehicle.

Thanks for that cerb...

I found out today that someone else put a deposit on this truck yesterday, before I called today to close the deal. Perhaps its for the best. Perhaps it will come back on the market if he doesn't deliver the cash as intended Monday. My Mechanic thought the truck ran fine up until 55mph when it stopped accelerating. It never stalled or failed in any way that I know about. It had no codes showing at time of his inspection. I certainly understand the cost of a new set of injectors, and I imagine everything else you mentioned would be extra.

I appreciate your input here. Makes the stress of losing the deal on the truck today seem a little less terrible, if not down right good luck.

Im actually looking at some high mile 2004.0s now, thinking I can use the money Im saving to build the truck back up to the high standards of my former truck. If I could get my hands on the motor and trans from my former truck I would buy it and put it another 2004 with drive-train issues. At least Id know the condition of my motor and trans from mile 1. Think I will call the auction yard that sold it and ask who bought it, tomorrow.

On second thought...how could replacing the OEM fuel pump relay in the power center (fuse box) have fixed the low speed issue? By fixing the reduced voltage to the LP perhaps? If I get a chance to test drive that truck in the future, it will definitely be put through a full throttle exercise numerous times before I will be convinced the problem is fixed. I will also check for a new relay in an old power center with lots of dusty old relays surrounding the alleged new one. There will also be another DTC check with my OBD-II.
