Happy Birthday

Only in PA

Today I have a late '70's CT70 tucked away in my shed. Nowadays there's not anyplace to ride anymore without being bothered... .

I agree! I bought a new Honda Foreman in '04 that only has a little over 300 miles on it. We live out in the country but it don't matter, it you don't make it street legal you cant ride it, so I got mad and never take it off the property. The county, fish and game and forest service enforce it here big time. Yet it is okay to take a vehicle with off road tires on the highway:mad: Most of those miles are by the grand kids.

The problem here is just plain overdevelopment. My time as a kid on Staten Island allowed someone to find some remote places to find some peace and quiet and do something without eyes on you.

There was a narrow strip of woods that ran parrallel to the main road behind and downgrade from a strip of stores. It was like less than a mile long, but this was paradise for us kids. It was complete with a brook running through it. As long as you didn't set a fire, it was free game in there. Oo. :D:eek:

If you encountered a cop on the street, and if you hopped off the bike and walked it and didn't seem to be starting trouble, you weren't bothered.

Now there's a condo development in there.

I started on a Z-50 when I was 8 or so. Got a new '75 XR-75 when I was 12. Moved up to a '74 MT-125 after that. Didn't get my bike license until I was in my 30's and picked up a ten year old '82 GPZ. Didn't ride it much after the first couple of years and sold it. I have an '82 CB-600 in the storage building that is awaiting some work but I won't ride it to work. The highway was nuts enough before the construction started, now I'm worried driving my little beater car.

I was lucky to have a quarry a mile or so away. We had to push our bikes down to the end of the road but then the ditches were OK. I'm still in the same area but my son won't be able to have the fun I did, they don't let enyone in the quarry anymore.

I’m dredging this one up from the bottom of the site!
It popped up as a suggestion to mwilson’s snow blower thread. It’s always nice to reminisce, as contributing to this post did for many of us. But I’m not sure if you all have been paying attention to Honda recently. You see, they have a new model for ‘19, The Monkey. Now I understand that this was their domestic name for what we know as our Honda trail bikes. Please follow this link, and be prepared to have your socks knocked off!

Yes, actually looking at this made me understand another bike this is based off of, The Grom. I see them around here in the city, but never looked into them. Seems that there’s a lot to squeeze out of that little mill. They zip around pretty smartly for a 125.
As of now, I’m trying to wrangle a CRF70 off a co worker that is really in great shape.
But back to this Monkey, there’s a lot of tech packed in there! It’s pricy though. $4k.

My first bike was a POS HD 125 ring ding when I was a kid.
In my mid twenties
ATC90
175 twin Honda - trike'd for sand dunes
Trail 90
Trail 110
250 Honda Trials
350XL thumper stripped down and big rubber, great hill climber
Last one was a Kawasaki Z 650SR It looked just like this one.

My cousin had an XR 75. We road that thing everywhere.

I just happened to look online recently. Those things are going for great money at this point.

All these bikes in decent shape are very desirable today!

My first was a new Mini Trail 50. I think 1965. Still have it but I think it needs a carb clean to get it running again.
Then
Honda 450
79 Kawasaki 750 twin
77 Kawasaki KZ1000 I built up in 82 from a frame & 2 wrecks
Kawasaki 1500 cruiser. At highway speeds my feet vibrated off the floorboards
95 H-D Heritage softail - I cartwheeled it at 23mph & spent 3 months in a wheelchair
2000 H-D Road King
2003 Electra Glide Classic - traded it with 94k miles for
2016 Limited

Time for a barn stroll.
Hey Lynx, tell us about the cartwheel? If you don’t mind. On a Heritage? Wheeew!

Well, 6pm in early July. Just ordered the Road King 2 days earlier (1 year lead time those days).
Back road in woods on my way to meet friends an DW for dinner. Areas of bright sun and shade.
Sharp left turn coming up, checked for sand on corner, checked Speedo (23 mph), looked back and... no road in shaded section. Culvert collapse.

Yikes, so you dropped the front wheel in a hole and the rear wheel went over your head.

That’s what I think happened. My foot got caught in the tow/heel shifter and when the leg broke, I passed out. I came to sliding down the road on my brand new that day, pager. Ground the face off it :) Scarred up the helmet & gloves. Not a mark on my shoes, pants or shirt.

First person to stop asked what she could do to help (she already called 911). I asked her to shut the bike off. She didn’t ask how, she just walked over and did it (tank mounted ignition).
Second person to stop was an EMT.
