S-10 or Ranger??

Engine Swap in 91 W250

Anyone have any ideas about how to get a 518/618 (47RH) to work behind a 4 BT without electrons? Is the OD and TC lockup the only thing controlled by TPS etc? Any ideas accepted... . thanks

I was told 96and up trannys need a contoller to make them work 95 and under you can use toggle sw to engage od or lock up TQ I was thinking of doing the same thing on my 4bt swap I got a 96 transmission cheap I was going to use till I found out it needs controller to work

You can use two toggle switches to run OD and lockup. You will need a 94, 95, or very early build 96 trans. The 47RE was a mid model year change in 96. The 47RH(618) has an oblong three pin connector sticking straight up behind where the shift lever comes out of the trans case. The 47RE(also mistakenly labeled as a 618) has a round ten? pin connector in this location. To wire the 47RH for toggle switches run a fused(15A) B+ line to the center pin on the connector. Run wires fom the outer pins to toggle switches that are hooked to ground. I used lighted switches on mine so I remember to turn them off. I've been doing this for 2 1/2 years now, seens to work pretty good.

Any idea...

how a 4BT migh feel behind a 618? With 120hp/335ft/lbs. I think it will pull in a Scout, any other thoughts on this? Tire sizes? Differential gearing? Any other auto catch your imagination? 4L80E (without the "e" part preferably!) Thanks

I think it would work great. I work on 4bts in box trucks (bread trucks)
I know a scout would be lighter than a bread truck we dont run autos, 4 speeds mostly some 5 speeds I think ours are 107 HP
I have a 4bt in my garage thinking of putting early 96 transmission behing mine dont know what I will put it in I am thinking 1/2 ton truck

The toggle switch thing will work fine and a scout is probably long enough to still have room for a driveshaft after the trans and transfercase a 700R4 would probably hold up behind a STOCK 4bt so you could consider that the 4bts in breadtrucks are set up to bolt to chevy tranys anyway

they are a GM 5 spd dont know who makes them for GM the trucks with 5 spd were 6. 2 GM deisels that we converted when the 6. 2 took a dump

I'm working on a 4BT conversion and after many discussions with different transmission shops, they all recommended against using a 700R4 behind a 4BT, the torque converter dies a horrible death after being subjected to the intense idle kick and harsh harmonics that the 4BT is notorious for. All five shops I talked to recommended a 4L80E if I really wanted an overdrive auto, otherwise use a NV3500 or NV4500 5 speed manual depending on horsepower/torque levels.

4BT

I have a question along the same line, For you guy's.

I'm working on a project Chev. Bread Truck that I would like to install the 4BT and a chev Auto trans.

I need the Bellhousing, Trans adapter, and Starter for the above. If anyone can supply these parts or part #'s and where I might locate them. It would be great.

Thanks

Bellhousing #'s

Thanks for the information guys, If anyone out there has a bellhousing with the P/n's. 6100786 and would like to sell, Let me know I sure could use it.

Thanks:cool:

Ok, stupid question time. Would an NV5600 off of an ISB bolt up to a 4BT with the same flywheel housing, etc?

In a word yes!. All you have to do is buy the parts, starting with the transmission adapter, starter, flywheel etc... . $$$$

There has been a 4BT I know about for years in front of a 700 with zero issues. I think it depends on how you set up the converter and which one you use.

I would not rule it out. The idle pulse/power pulse is true fer sure, but you are not talking about juicing the thing up to 300 HP... (or are you)????

the number on the adaptor I have for my 4bt is TMC 6100786 it is for a GM transmission or bellhousing

Is that a Cummins part number or? Thanks

Also does anyone know the part number for the flex plate for a Cummins to chevy auto?

I'm also doing a 4bt in to a 85' chevy 4x4 swap.

These local parts guys are giving me fits#@$%!

stomper thats the only numbers I can find on the adaptor so I assume they are cummins part numbers.
I will look on the flexplate I have for part number in morining
