First a big thanks for all the help and support here.

I finally had time to try for my emissions test after turning down my main fuel screw, new stock air cleaner, fresh oil change Rotella 15-40. Seemes like my truck still smoked more than I liked and I feard I would flunk my test again. Oh, I also added a bottle of fuel conditioner.

My truck hasn't been driven at all this year and my plate was due last may. It smokes blue when cold and black when warmed up. Still makes 18 psi boost in 4th when floored on a hill.

Anyway, took it in for the test $65 (what a racket) she passed with a 5% out of possible 35%. But the operator also said my HP was way down and I should have it looked at. 65 HP at the rear wheel.

Well, at least now I can start driving it again and park it in the street. I turned the fuel screw back up allmost a 1/2 turn when I got home. I wonder how much HP difference that would show. Seems strange to have all that boost and no power???? I trust his dyno figures. Thats all this place does is state inspections.

I put my 9 1/2 ft Mitchel overhead camper back on and I know that thing ways almost 2k pounds. It pulled hard but I had already turned in my fuel screw.

Something sounds fishy with these numbers, what do you think? What kind of HP numbers are you guys seeing with basicaly stock truck?

That's daft..... I get more from my lawnmower. . ok, I've tweaked it but still... :D

I don't think you want to even START to believe the guy or the dyno... goofy toobsteak. . !!!!!

pb...

ps: a stock truck with an auto will usually put down about 135 RWHP and a 5spd will be roughly 145'ish-150 RWHP...

Well, thats kinda what I was thinking.

I used to run around 150, I think. Most of the places I used in the past had a digital display you could see from outside the truck and I specificaly asked this guy to be sure and watch it because i wanted to know for comparision sake.

He told me that it wasn't that kind of dyno???? But when he finished he says that it is only 65. He wasn't the same operator that was there the last time I wonder? I would think with the few mods I have that it would be higher and even with my camper on the truck it pulled hard like always. But like I said, I put the camper back on after I turned the screw back in.

Really doesn't matter. I am just glad it passed. I guess the next thing would be to watch my fuel mileage and see where that goes.

That was coooold

Yup... but that's my bud the :-laf :-laf busboy for ya. Drinking all that hazelnut coffee. . well, what can I say??

And to set the record straight. . it was 15. 6 rwhp see my signature below.

30 mph on the rollers in 4th gear ..... smoke was not detectable... reading was 1% opacity out of an allowable 20%. . and it "only" cost me $20.

Pastor maybe there should be a new forum for un. . de. . re... modifying(??) our trucks to get past State testing? It seems the competition for the lowest functioning HP has been engaged!!!

:-laf :-laf ..... well... . that's gonna be a tricky one to spec out... . I guess the first rule would be..... hmmmm..... the engine's gotta actually be running for the test... ... .

you guys are all flat out nuts... ... . my kinda group... :D:D:D

WHOOOHOO a competition I can finally compete in :D

(hmm... remove fuel screw and 5 injectors, change fuel line to 1/8 inch, plug up air fliter, restrict exhaust... ... ... )

Funny... but to actually be serious for a moment... . ok half a moment then.

2 years ago I de tuned (rotated the fuel pin to min) to go thru emissions.

But this summer my son took his 94 thru without detuning his and it passed with no sweat.

So I followed suit a couple of months ago when mine came due again and it went thru just as it is.

I think with the first gens as long as there is a spring in the afc housing it will pass. . at least the Ct test. I mean how much go pedal can you need to go 30 mph on a dyno???

Who has flat nuts??? :-laf :-laf

Thanks I needed that. I haven't lauphed that hard since I seen the lady's fighting over frozen turkeys.

I got to hang out here more often. I was actually worried there for a minute or three.

Something still bothering me.

How was I getting such a low HP number and still seeing 18# of boost?

I figured that boost and HP and fuel was a more linear output line?

'EZ... ... are you saying you had 18psi boost while the emissions test was run????? ... ... ... ok, I think I MUSTA had a stroke then.....

Can you clear that up???

On another issue as well... since you don't/haven't driven your truck much at all I really suggest you put in a good heavy dose of fuel treatment and make sure to run the truck long enough to be sure the additive has made it all the way thru the system to the injectors. That will at least help keep the fuel in decent shape/stability especially if you don't/won't drive it much... also if possible make sure the fuel tank is full when you park it. The tank will sweat at the boundary layer and above between the fuel level and the top of the tank when temps fluctuate. Having fuel in it right to the top will help reduce or eliminate that... . again, if you don't drive it much.

pb... .
