If you clean it, you will be able to see if it is coming from internal (inside the bell housing) or external like the sump pan, vent line, fill tube, or some other exterior penetration to the case. Either location can drip from the front of the transmission when nose down hence the recommendation to wash and check for source. If Internal, could be the seal, pump, TC, TC drain..,,, just to rattle off a few.
FWIW.. My 04 leaked engine oil from the back of the pan, thought it was a rear main, when I pulled for a clutch it was dry, turned out it was the front cover by the crank sensor running down the edge of the block, then around the corner and down the pan...
Point is it can be tricky to nail down the source of a leak, especially an intermittent one,. JM2C
