My 2011 with 65k miles on it has developed a transmission issue as of late. I have changed the transmission oil and both filters about 6-7k miles ago and used the proper ATF+4 oil that meets OEM specs. I have noticed that when the transmission temp is cold (below about 60F) that occasionally when i shift the truck into R or D from park the truck will pull hard in that direction like the torque converter was locked up. It pulls the idle speed down, and I have to stand on the brake pedal so as not to run into anything like in a parking lot. I have also had this happen when in D and rolling up to a stop light and the trans shifts down to 1st gear and it tries to keep pulling me thru the light. Ample brake pressure has always stopped the truck and once the wheels are stopped the transmission "releases" and all is normal. This only happens intermittently, and so far always when the trans temp is cold. I have checked the fluid level many times and it seems OK, except for the "hot" level, the book/dipstick says to check hot when the temp is 180F; i have never seen 180F in this truck even towing 7k pounds in the mountains. Highest i usually see is about 165 towing and 120-135 running empty. Any thoughts, help or other similar experiences? Check the codes with my MiniMaxx too...no codes.

Trans engineer did a big post on this issue some time ago. Once he explains how all the sensors and oil etc etc work in combo with each other it made sense...In a nut shell, I believe if I remember the article right was your torque converter is losing oil into the pan when off, causing the surge issue. Hopefully he will pipe in or someone will post the link.

Maybe you can PM him.

After some searching and reading (a very heated thread for no apparent reason, i might add) it makes sense to me now...Thank you for pointing me towards Transengineer's thread...it was most helpful. I guess i will grab an OEM filter and service the transmission again.

Still not sure why it will occasionally do this after a mile or so of driving though...seems like it have the TC filled by then??
