Will this transmission only lock up in 5th and 6th? Getting ready for a cross country trip with the 5th wheel. I have truck in sig, 5th wheel GVW is 14.2K I wouldn't think there would be any issues but iy grts hot out west and there are some steep hills. I just wondered when it will lock up to keep transmission temps down.

Had the same truck with 3:42's. Trans temps were never a problem and it will stay locked from 2nd thru 6th no problem. Run TH and EB ALL THE TIME!

Did you have it in tow/haul?? It will lock in second around 1500-1800 RPM's, and every gear after with T/H engaged.

You shouldn't have any problem. We tow a 19,000 lb GVWR 5th wheel and have been through the Appalachians, the Ozarks and just returned from a trip in the Davis Mountains of West Texas. As long as you're not doing a lot of slow 1st/2nd gear work, your 68RFE transmission temperatures should be just fine. I normally see transmission temperatures in the 160s and 170s, even in 100 degree weather. If the 68RFE has to downshift on a climb, it's very good about making the downshift and immediately locking up the torque converter.

Awesome, I do run the EB and TH 100% of the time. I have been over the Rockies many time but always in MH. This is first Fiver. Leave in 1 week for a month or so.
