OK I know you guys have been making great comments about the new 6-speed automatic, but I'm looking for some specifics on how it behaves in real world driving:

• How tight is the torque converter, does it seem very soft?
• When you are accelerating, what gears do you get lockup?
• Is there a significant RPM drop when the TC locks?
• What RPM does the trans upshift at during WOT?
• Does the TC stay unlocked at WOT?

Thanks guys.

Took out a 6. 7 today with the automatic and for 44kms I was very impressed. Really like the fact that you can drive it like a semi automatic. The new six speed auto would make it a difficult choice when it came time to order a new truck. Glad I am not in that position. . yet.

This probably won't be much help but I can't really tell for sure when it shifts or TC locks most of the time. I do know that my truck pulled the grapevine (long 6+% grade on I-5) in 6th gear with TC locked and cruise set at 65 mph. The tachometer and speedometer did not move at all during the entire climb up the hill. This was running empty but I'll bet this sucker is going to pull my 10K 5er just fine.

Having driven mine for 2,300 miles (not many) and coming from never owning an auto to this one, I love it.

When I accelarate hard, it shifts very tight. It shifts smooth when driving normal.

I can't tell for sure, but it seems like 5th and 6th lock up pretty quick if your not on it hard. It does drop the rpm's when it locks up though. A noticable difference, but you can manually downshift so it keeps them up.

Don't know on the WOT yet. Best I can tell at 60 and mashed on it hard (not quite to the floor though) it downshifted and ran the rpms up to 3,100 then shifted. At 60 if I just speed up, not hard, it stays locked up in 6th and I've only had it to 80.

I only have a few hundred miles on my 07. 5 so I am still learning the transmission's behavior. The TC is very tight compared to my 03 4 spd auto. After the 1-2-3 shifts things get a little vague. My old truck had an aftermarket exhaust so I could really hear what was happening. The new one is so quiet it's tough to tell. The RPMs don't change much during shifting or lockup. It's almost seamless I guess. My 03 dropped RPMs so severely on lockup that I would get turbo blow back if I was on the throttle just right (or just wrong). The thing I like best is the more positive way the truck moves out under heavy load. What I don't like so far is that the trans hunts and jerks some under light load and low speeds.

Might have better data after a few more miles.

I have about 2500 miles on mine. All I can say about the shifting is:

Perfect Perfect Perfect Perfect Perfect Perfect 6 times...

The first, second, third are great for the launches. I am in third before I know it. It does seem to like to lockup and get into the upper gears very quickly which I like. I use the manual shifter a lot when towing. When I see hill coming, at the bottom I go ahead and shift into fifth. The TQ is solid and shifts smoothly. The reverse is great. Much lower than 48re. Gears are much closer together than the 48re and the hard acceleration is great. For what it is worth. It will out run my 06' 48re big time. The six speeds have a lot to do with that. :-laf
