Just dropped the stock pan and about to weld a bung for future service. I have 14QTs in my cabinet of mopar ATF-4.

how many Qts do you guys usually put back in? Pan seems pretty low capacity.

Done! Changed both filters, let it drain while I welded then pulled the old filters off. Installed a revmax steel screw for the screw on filter and put in 8qts (9 came out) drove till it reached 165* and the level was right in between the two dots for full.

I wonder if I’ve been over filled the entire time? Truck is at 48k

My TIG skills are mediocre at best. I know!

My steel and stainless welds look like that. While I was at SEMA last fall I did a demo at the Miller booth, they had me use a smaller electrode and a much larger cup. I purchased both but have not tried it yet. The only difference between my machine and theirs was it had pulse. Not sure how much difference it made, they claim not that much. The other thing they said was use less heat more concentrated (smaller electrode).

You are by far more knowledgeable than me!

I bought a everlast powertig 250ex to play around with.

Im an ironworker by trade, I weld all day with a Lincoln LN25 running 232 wire. Tig is a whole new ballgame for me but it intrigues me!

Would you be willing to give me some tips?

So I used a lubelocker gasket instead of RTV...we shall see how it holds up. Might have to pull it off again and reseal if it doesn’t work.

For those of you that use RTV, does it have to be the mopar version or is the black permatex safe to use?

Genos sells a drain plug, just a matter of drilling a 1/2" hole ,and installing, pretty simple for those that don't have the welding available.

I used "The Right Stuff" by Prermatex on my MagHytec pan on my 68RFE, not a bit of a leak over 50k on the change. This is my pan at 65k with 50k+ on the AMZ/OIL. UH yea that was a full fluid exchange at 15k or so.

I always had great results with the MOPAR RTV sealant when I serviced my 68RFE and other transmissions.

As with lots of things......one’s results are directly associated with the prep involved in regards to removing the old sealant from the pan.

So after driving about 100 miles today...zero leaks. The lubelocker gasket and copper washer on the drain plug have been flawless.

I will keep you guys updated.
