68RFE Transmission Spin On Filter Screw, Steel Upgrade

Has anyone had any experience with the "68RFE Transmission Spin On Filter Screw, Steel Upgrade" from RevMax?

I've googled and can't find anything regarding this part except where to purchase it.

I don't recall anyone having trouble with the stock one. What is the selling point for the replacement?

I'm starting to think it's a gimmick, not too many people sell them, it was just $30. RevMax claims that the plastic one can easily crack causing the filter to fail, thus being detrimental to the transmission. I don't know, I'm sure the stock one is plastic. It's just one of those things, while you have the pan dropped, I had thought "might as well"...

I suppose if it were super critical, Geno's would be stocking them:-laf

Just don't over tighten the stock one and all is good. Also the stock one has the newest anti drain back valve.

Recently purchased the 68RFE filter set from Amazon for $42 with free shipping and no tax. This will be my second filter and fluid job. The spin-on filter has a pretty solid threaded plastic adapter in my opinion. Like an oil filter, tighten 1/2 to 3/4s turn upon contact. Hand tighten only and you should be fine.

I've seen one of these steel filter adapters and remember having mixed feeling. #1 craftsmanship is second rate, you will need to debur the insides with a dremel or file then clean real good to be sure all the metal fillings are removed. I was afraid if I left it the way I received it that the burrs would come lose in the trans. #2 removing the plastic adapter is not as easy as it looks in fact you will need to use channel locks which will destroy the plastic threads.

Probably isn't necessary but if you decide to order check the inside lip for lose metal particles.

I read somewhere that there was a bad batch with messed up threads. The one I go seems fine, very clean and appears to be well made. Also on the filter I got from Geno's, the plastic insert takes a large allen wrench. However, I'll send the $30 steel adapter back and just go with the stock filter set-up. Thanks for all the replies.
