Is there any update/upgrade I can do to this transmission? The shift points are terrible. And the 4th gear converter lock deal or what ever that is is driving me crazy. Crazy enough to trade for a ford. I have a 2014 longhorn Laramie I like the truck but the transmission I don't. The truck is all stock. I don't plan to delete. Has plenty of power. Also when in tow/haul mode. If on a two lane road with curves and if you hold the brake too long here comes the downshifting that stand u on your head. Surely the engineers can do better than this.

There are several aftermarket programmers to help the 68RFE to make up for what Chrysler hasn't figured out yet.

Trade in for a Ford? I thought you wanted something better; not worse. They haven't had a leg to stand upon since the 7.3 left the building.

The shift points may seem terrible to what you are used to, but they are designed for emissions and fuel economy as the primary factors. If they are that bad it would be much cheaper to shift it yourself with the buttons than trade it in. Did you drive it before you purchased it, or has the shifting changed since purchase?

I've had a Cummings for the past 16 yrs. love them. But like I said the transmission makes the worst. What are some programmers?

Sure I drove it. 60g truck. But not being in a new one for so long and I've always had a stick. My 99 was a straight drive. I didn't notice the 4th gear deal Flare shift. I presume is the torque converter locking.

Yes, there are some out there, ATS which is a "on the fly" line pressure and shift controller, BD has a pug in pressure fooler which increases line pressure for firmer shifts. There are also kits that have a new separator plate which has been drilled with larger holes to allow quicker, firmer shifts.

when that happens, don't run TH mode. Take it off and select the gear you want manually.

The stock transmission shift points are indeed terrible. That has been my complaint since day one...it is never in the right gear, especially at slower speeds, turning, or going uphill. I have an H&S minimax with the Overdrive tune that helps a good bit, but it still needs some refinement as well...but since they are practically out of business that isn't gonna happen. Unfortunately emissions and economy are dictating these type of problems that we as end users have to live with.

Bossman, I thought I was the only one who hated the shifting pattern on the 68RFE.. I had a 2012 with the 68 RFE that shifted like it was supposed to. Then bought a 2013 with the 68 RFE and it shifted like someone from DELL tech support did the programming, flares between gears etc etc. Traded it for another 2013 with a 68 RFE that shifts right. Don't ask me why this 2013 shifts right and the other did not.

I was told 6 months into my first 2013, FCA was working on a patch to get rid of the horrible shift patterns, but I never could find it. It was supposed to had come out in the fall of 2014, but I could not find a dealer that new anything about it or mech.

Maybe trade it in for a Aisin equipped RAM. I drove one and it felt like a real transmission should. Eventually I will get a Aisin, but for now I'm stuck with the 68RFE. I leave mine in 5th gear around town to stop the gear hunt and low rpm ride, plus e-brake works better in town. Freeway 6th gear.

On another thread they are telling a guy that had a dealer trade sold out from under him to go ahead and settle for a 68RFE rather than an Aisin. I linked this thread to his!!! SNOKING

My advise to anyone buying a 3500, go for the Aisin if its within your budget. Don't settle for the 68RFE if you don't have to. The 68 RFE is "adequate" but thats it.

TCdiesel, Thanks. That covers a lot of issues. I have to take her in for recall checks. Maybe they will do this too.

Make Sure they are running 16.02.11 (WITECH) Software, W/Pod Update. Ask to observe , Most likely the Dealership Has Wireless updates so they can do it just about anywhere at the lot.

I also have a hack for the TPM system to lower the Tire PSI on 2500/1500, My guess is in 6 Months it won't work. they will have an updated to stop the lower PSI, But you can still change the Country of origin, For Now.
