What condition should I expect the cat to be in.

#1 -Is this something that should be checked. I have read a lot of posts

in the past that it wasn't really an improvment or necessary

to do anything with it? Sometimes I wonder when I look at the back of my tailpipe.

#2 - Does the cat do anything to eliminate drone?

I took gutted mine out when I had about 70K on it. I did not have a pyro at the time so I cannot honestly tell you about improvement there, but I did notice the turbo spools down longer after shutdown and the gas mileage improved about half mile to the gallon. So in my case it made a small difference. I would do it again. And the drone did not change - no better, no worse.

Lost

I lost my Kitty at about 25,000 . Seat of the pants seemed like it spooled better !! The sound stayed about the same, maybe a little deeper.

I removed mine at 110,000. No noticeable mileage difference, but I was able to hear the turbo still running after shutdown. That indicated to me that the cat posed some type of restriction to the system. Get rid of it, get a test pipe if you don't want to gut the cat, but get it out of the system.

i just gutted my cat on saturday with 56k. it was plugged up on the ends and 20-30% plugged through the "tubes". a tip i figured out--take a pinchbar (crowbar, prybar, whatever) and use a big hammer to punch through the center of the cat. once you make a hole in the center, the rest of the stuff starts to fall apart. i've noticed faster spool up, a drone at idle, weird exhaust notes, and the bottle sound all the time @ 1900rpms. definately worth it!
