7-pin wiring

I noticed after installing a 7-pin connector into my pickup bed and testing that the battery terminal is always hot. On my previous Ford's the battery power was keyed. Is this normal on Ram's? I would prefer that it be keyed.

I like it always hot, that way my 12V lights in the race car trailer work without the truck running.

IIRC when I checked, my 2013 was keyed, not always on.

I installed a constant duty solenoid on my 2010 to isolate the trailer battery from the truck battery when truck isn't running.

Installing a solenoid is something I may do. I have a transfer tank and pump and don't want to worry about it coming on accidently while driving down the road. It's plugged into the 7-pin outlet. How and where did you install the solenoid?

I installed the solenoid on the driver side firewall, the wiring harness where the battery feed to the 7 pin plug is right below it, I can't recall the color of the wire, but I used a 12v circuit tester to find it. I used the wire that goes to the cigarette lighter for the keyed 12 volt on and off source for the solenoid.

My 2013 is constant hot both at the connector next to the license plate and at the 5th wheel plug in the bed. Ken Irwin

I have not seen any Rams that had switched power to the trailer wiring yet,but I have not had a reason to check the 4th gens yet.
