I'd like to encourage everyone to provide thier best input to this thread. However, since it applies to all the newer body style Rams, I'm dropping it over into the "Products" forum.

chall seems to be a new member, let's help out!

Thanks for participating

I have these on my '01. Best "factory" mirrors I've ever had. No vibrations and you can see it all. Can't imagine why they wouldn't fit your '97..... even if you had to mod the mount holes a small amount. J.

What type of mirrors are talking about? I also have a 97 and pull a 25' 5th wheel, and the stock mirrors don't cut the mustard. I would like to have a mirror that I could see down the side of the trailer. I've tried a set of those slide on mirrors that a friend of mine has and they are about the same. I need some advise on what to put on. #ad

Well I got my second opinion from a fellow TDR member, Butch Kraus, here's what he said...

"The mirrors are the same mirrors that are now offered on the 2001 Rams. They list for $370 each, and at cost they are $225 each. Yes they will fit a 96 door, you will have to take off the door panel to mount them. Once you have the door panel off and the old mirrors off you will use the same holes for the new mirror. You will have to make up a back plate of 1/8" steel about 3" triangle for support. Once the door panel if off and new mirror in place you'll see what I mean. It took me about10 minutes to make each one. The reason for the plate is to hold the mirrors more secure, other wise it could buckle you door. If your looking for a better price check out www.mopar4less.com. When you fill out the request use the model year 2000 or 2001. They use the same door since 1994. "

RHARVEY, check this thread to see the mirrors.

Thanks again Butch #ad

Here's something else to consider (thanks again Butch Kraus):

A business in Michigan called Magna Mirror Systems (734-953-3063 Ext 216) is finishing up a "better" version towing mirror for our rigs. They also make the flip-out mirror for Dodge that we have been talking about. Here's the scoop on the new mirrors:

It's called the Mammoth Mirror
The mirror is 10" by 10" and is flat
Mounts in original OEM holes
Slides out 4. 5" (manually) to give 21. 75" outside edge to door
Will connect to OEM electric control
List price for the set is $345. 00 yes that's SET!
Not available until Sept 1st though
Fits 94 - 2001 trucks (doors the same).
Can see a version of the mirror in Trailer Life Mag (Feb 2000) page 54.

I would sure like to see what they look like. Magna will mail me the sales literature as soon as it's available.

Let me know when you get the information and if they look good or not. .

Thanks
Rick

Alaska Bee, thanks for the tip. With the information you provided I was able to reference the material in Trailer Life within a minute or two.

The mirrors were mounted on a Ford F150. I would hope the mirrors they offer for the Dodge Ram have a design that looks like they belong on a Dodge. The illustrated mirrors are definitely very Ford looking.

I'm really impressed with the looks of the optional '00/'01 Dodge towing mirrors however, I would like to see a power adjustable and heated version of these. Is that too much to ask for? Since Powervision has dropped the ball on the heated feature (and STILL continues to do so), I may have to give the Dodge towing mirrors a second look if they add these features.

Sorry to jump in in mid thread. I wanted to reinforce Alaska Bee's comments about reinforcing the door when using the newer mirrors - I investigated them very early on - the dealer warned me strongly that the doors had been reinforced for these mirrors and that they could present a problem on the older applications - I am pleased that a fix-it now exists. Not having seen a new model I was unsure what measures were taken. I also held off due to the prices as you all have discovered. I am very interested in seeing what this new mirror from MI will be like -

I was always a fan of the standard stainless Tow mirrors and have had them on every truck till now - but always had trouble with rust around the mounting points -
too bad too - we just landed a 36' 5er and for once I dont have decent mirrors to tow the darn thing.

I hope D. C. will offer heated/electric towing mirrors in the future AND a kit to convert existing heated/electric mirrors to the flip out style towing mirrors!!!
I WOULD be a customer for the latter!!!
Are You reading this D. C. ? #ad

I have never had "towing mirrors" and especially disliked the simple mounting system of a bolt through the door skin. I realize they are needed for towing safely though.

Next time you are sitting next to an 18-wheeler, check out the mirror mounts on the fender. It looks to be a completely concealed mount with an eschucheon and gasket over the bolt(s). I have no idea if they could be used on the Ram but they are a three point system like the Ram. They look slick as well.

I spoke with Magna Mirror about a month ago regarding their mirrors. The person I spoke with stated that they manufacture the mirrors used on our trucks and that this is their first effor going directly to the aftermarket. The mirrors are supposed to be available at the beginning of September.

I talked to Magna Mirrors last mon. They were going to take pictures for literature, and start getting distributors set up this week. They are elect. adjustable, but not heated. Will be avaiable about Sept. 15th.
They are two armed(like ph*#d)and slide in and out, but I don't care just cause they are electric adj.
The person in charge is Tim Craw. Ph# 734-953-3063.
Maybe we should try a group purchase on them. I'll take a pair.
