Good observation. According to CBSNews.com: G-7 is U. S. , France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Japan, and Britan. G-8 is the same plus Russia. I couldn't find if it is the same or different groups, but there were articles about both that dated back to 1999 and both seem to be economically based groups.
However, I don't think that it relates to the Revelation verse.
Rev. 17:10 "They are also 7 kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come , he must remain for a little while. "
The 5 that "have fallen" refer to the 5 major empires before John's time (1st century A. D. ). The "one is", refers to the Roman empire. The "other has not yet come" = ?.
I would, however, agree that they are helping to set the stage for the events outlined in the rest of the prophesies.
As to the whole of the subject of prophesy: Don't forget what is important.
Matthew 24:4 "Jesus answered: 'Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name claiming, 'I am the Christ', and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. "
v26 "So if anyone tells you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here he is in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. "
v36 "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. "
v45,46 "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. "
The point of prophesy is to encourage and give hope, not frighten. In other words: bad stuff will happen. Don't worry, God is still in controll. God will put an end to it at the right time.
No matter what, remember the laws of the cosmos:
1. There is a God.
2. You are not He.
3. One day you will meet Him face to face. Are you ready for that meeting?

You remind me of that skinny guy in the movie "The Mummy". The mummy started comming after him and he pulled out a pile of chains around his neck, each with a different religious symbol. He tried them one at a time until one worked.
