We got 685 once and 678 another, always over 650, just depends on how much city driving (usually 15 - 20%), how much stop and go; highway speed 60-65+. I agree on a straight highway trip should be able to hit 800.

JC, a TSB is a technical service bulletin which is sent out by the vehicle manufacturer. The TST they are referring is a aftermarket performance box that oftens help with mileage. There are multiple settings on the box for different levels of power. Clear as mud?

Anyone here have a stock fuel tank and hit 700 miles on a tank? Any 800's?



Is your truck an auto or 6 spd? Which rear axle? Also... . Keep in mind that the short beds have a slightly smaller fuel tank (34 gallons) vs the long beds (35 gallons).
 
Some guys I talk to that have really run their tanks down can get close to 40 gallons in if you run the tank near dry. If you get about 19 - 20mpg, you're going to get close to 800 miles. DC gives us about 10 percent fuel left when you hit 0 on the DTE display.

From Northwest corner of PA in Great Lake snow belt. So we'll see how this DC rig fares in 3 feet of snow compared to my previous F250sd 7. 3.
 
I get exactly the same as ropinfool2 with my 04. 5 ho same transmission etc. He told it loke it is for stock rigs

Kind of hard to do when the tank on a long bed only holds 35 gallons according to the owners manual.

Idea is that his kit fixes the slow fill-up problem, plus makes more of the reserve area of the tank available for additional fuel. :)

Any pictures of how the kit is installed. I saw the link that shows tube and fittings, but can't understand how it will add 5 gallons of fuel?

The kit will only let you fill the raised portion of the tank at the rear of the tank. It's not quite 5 gallons, but you'll fill that portion of the tank in about 1 min or less instead of 5-8 minutes. See my reader's rigs pics for pics of the install and parts of the tank.
 
This is not fair. I'm still getting 11-12 with TST around town. I find myself smiling at every light now with the TST which isn't helping the mileage issue.

I do pull a 3500 pound enclosed trailer all the time.
 
Not impossible though. My truck is a short bed 04. 5 and I filled up the other day when the low light just came on and put 34 gallons in it without filling to the rim. RG
 
I have a 4x4, 6 speed, with the 3. 73 rear end. I think its about 8,000# with me and fuel in there. Maybe a bit more. I Will definiatley hit 700 on this tank. I hit a half tank at 420 miles and the DTE reads over 300. So, if I can get 750 before the DTE hits zero, I will go for 800. This is 90% my daily compute of 55-65MPH with half of the commute in the mountains. The other 10% is city driving. My VW TDI never hit 700 miles and no way 800 miles with this same commute. Of course it only has a 14 gallon tank. :D
 
GEM, problem is your stepping on the accelerator too much, only way I can get decent mileage out of any diesel is lock er in cruise and go forever. Can't get anything stop'n'going through the cities. Environment & driver technique make all the difference in the world driving a diesel. I can get 4 playing with the big trucks in the hills. Since I get to keep the nickels in my pocket I don't throw in the tank I've slowed down a bit anymore.

Well put. The driver is the biggest variable. I'm trying to get good mileage. Don't want to pay the $2. 09-2. 25/gal. Fuel mileage on mine has contiually gone up with miles and after a rather hard pull with the trailer. I'm at 19,000 miles and mid 20's (22-26) in mileage. 800 miles on a tank is very doable.

I have a 34 gallon stock fuel tank. I have done many high 600's and a few 700's, but that is unloaded. Example: I put on the trip 713 miles and pumped in 31. 75 gallons at fill up. That equals 22. 45 MPG x 34 gallon tank = 763 potental miles.



While going from Victorville to Sacramento and pulling my 7000 pound Pace enclosed car trailer I went non stop with out any fuel stop. 432 miles and I pumped in 34. 58 gallons at fill up. That equals 12. 49 MPG. Now I did have a extra 5 gallon diesel container with me just incase it started to starve for fuel.
