I have been trying to get some other issues fixed with my truck including a clicking noise in the motor that they can not find out what is, and the rising oil level issue others are having. While they had my truck at the dealer they told me dpf was partley clogged and my truck had tried to regenerate 72 times and had only completed it twice!! I realy don't think I should have to take my truck and drive it for 45 minutes at 50 mph just to clear the dpf. There is no way in my normal weekley driving I can maintain 50mph for 45 minutes. If it wasn't for the warrenty I would love to cut off all this crap, but with the current trend it looks like I am going to need all the warrenty I can get!!!!!!!! Has anybody contacted dodge with a similar concern higher up then just a dealer????

We've got 14K miles on our 08 - 5500 and to our knowledge it has not gone through a re-gen at this time...

Jim, don't your trucks run at highway speeds quite a bit?? My truck is currently being used as a town driver and doesn't get up to speed very often. As a matter of fact, a special trip has to be made when the DPF message shows up. My dad, who is driving my truck until June, is on a fixed income and it costs him money to have to get this truck out on the road just to clear the DPF. I've told him it needs to be done or the silly thing will eventually restrict flow, which brings on a whole new set of problems.

I'm interested in what happens with this truck next winter when it is in Alaska and will require idling to warm up.

I can't wait to drive this truck up the highway with the 5ver on it, good break in mileage and I shouldn't have an issue with the DPF at highway speeds.

Mine has, unfortunately, been used for around town driving only for the past six weeks. (It will be pulling a trailer on the highway beginning tomorrow)

It has gone into regeneration only twice as far as I know. The only way I recognized this is because at idle while stopped for a traffic light I noticed EGT was holding at 800*. I drove back onto the interstate and ran it 35 miles at 70 mph and then turned around and drove back home. Clearly a waste of fuel to satisfy the truck instead of it working for me. Without gauges I would have had no way to tell it was in the regen mode and would have shut it off at my destination.

Are the trucks supposed to have a warning in the dash or overhead console to tell us when it is in regen? I haven't seen one.

29,000 miles and I have yet to see, hear, feel any indication of a regen, and I keep a fairly close eye on the overhead readout. Some weeks my truck will do 1,500 miles, some 150.

The new software has reduced soot generation at idle, hopefully helping those that must idle. There is a new tsb NUMBER: 18-013-08 that may educate as well

OVERVIEW:

This bulletin involves:

==> If eligible, verifying that Emission Recall G30 - Replace Oxygen Sensor

Module and Reprogram ECM has been performed. If not, perform Recall G30 first.

==> Verifying software level, and if necessary, selectively erasing and

reprogramming the Engine Control Module (ECM) with new software.

==> Verifying software level, and if necessary, selectively erasing and

reprogramming the Cab Compartment Node (CCN) module with new software.

==> The installation of a Documentation Kit containing: and Owners Manual Diesel

Supplement, a driver side sun visor label, and an Informational DVD/CD kit.

I can tell when mine goes into either of the Regen modes both by the throttle response and the Dashhawk readout tells me which one its in. The DH also displays how long its been since the last Regen.

Yep... . most of my trucks spend 85% of their time on freeways... .

I have our 05 out and spent the day... Spokane to I-5 and almost into Canada... will cross tomorrow and return... Pulling a goose neck trailer at 10K...

Your truck has gone through many regenerations..... it is supposed to be transparent to the driver, so it obviously seems to be working on your truck.

You are the perfect candidate for the AX reflash. I suspect you are at some level before that. As for not completing the regen, it has partially completed some or your DPF would be plugged by now. Some of the early 07's plugged the DPF in as little as 500 moles so your truck is still working fine, but could be improved with the AX flash.

I can't recall at the moment but I think 70 or so was pretty close to the magic number for mine . It was in the shop ... . running goofy... they told me it had attempted to regen 70 or so times and was never successful... . the mechanic drove it 40-50 miles at highway speed and says he manually forced a regen with his computer ..... within a week I was stranded on the side of the road. It was dark and I was alone in the middle of Mucheau Brazil ... ... The closest village was over a 20 minute drive ..... I was carrying vaccines to a neighboring village to help fight Malaria... My satellite telephone was not working... I had plenty of water and was confident I would be found soon. I tried to radio for assistance with my VHF radio. The person that responded could only speak Portuguese. Darkness fell and I realized I would be staying over night . Just kidding ... Sorry but I got carried away.
