I just purchased an '89 4x4. The truck is comepletely stock. Trans was rebuilt approx 10k ago. It doesn't want to shift correctly, it doesn't slip, it lags I guess for lack of a better word. MAybe sloppy shifting, not sure how to describeit. Fluid seems fine, not burnt. If you take off and just lift off of the throttle when it "should" shift it drops into gear and goes fine.

Any ideas? Is the TPS only on OD trans?

BTW truck is as stock as it gets, absolutely no smoke!! All tamper caps still on and it is a slug LOL. So it's not a "turned up" issue.

Thanks, KO

You can adjust this by mearly lifting the white tab on the cable bracket. The end of the cable will slide fore/aft. Then simply press the white tab back down to it's original position.

I have adjusted my (727) transmission and found that by following this adjustment (I think I moved it foreward) the transmission corrected it's problem. It did just as you described and now it works perfectly in MHO.

I simply looked at my other truck and set the cable to the same point. I figured I couldn't go wrong.

Just move it forward a little and see if it corrects?

Just clarifying, feeling dense this morning LOL.

Thanks, KO

If I recall correctly..... my 90 had this adjustment set far to the rear (towards the fire wall) I simply thought it looked odd cuz my 92 isn't that way. Besides, the truck didn't shift correctly as you described. I believe that I slid the end of the cable forward about 1/2". All is well.

THANKS EVERYBODY.

It was adjusted to where the throttle lever was always in contact with the trans linkage (to the rear of the slot). I moved it forward a little and it shifted so smooth I didn't even notice it. Played with it a little and she's perfect now...

The throttle also wasn't coming into contact with the governor screw.

Adjusted that linkage and the governor screw cap fell off too :D

Thanks again guys.
