After reading the recent posting by Frank Lloyd on a broken factory fog light lens and the rediculous price charged by the dealer #ad
, I was wondering if anyone has devised some sort of 'protector' to put in front of the lens?

We're planning a trip to Alaska and flying rocks are everywhere on the Alcan. So I got some good heavy clear plastic headlight covers (better than nothing) and was trying to think of putting some Lexan or something over the fog lights.

I just might take them out for safekeeping for the trip. Don't really need 'em anyway.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

Richard

I've seen a clear film that sticks on to the lights and is supposed to prevent the cracking from flying debris. Not sure of the manufacturer or how well it works, if you need I can dig up the info for you.

Check out www.stoneguard.com and click the link for "StonGard Light". I've used this stuff on the car and the truck. Seems to work well. It costs about $50 or $60 per set pre-cut to fit your rig. They will even replace your headlight if it breaks for an extra 'extended warranty' charge, I believe. The headlights on the car are $300 each to replace (Volvo) so I figure it's worth it. I think I got mine thru Geno's for the Ram.

Thanks for the input guys... . The day our truck came in I had already ordered and had headlight protectors in hand. I don't remember the brand offhand but they are large, covering the headlight and turnsignal, with a thick, hard, clear lexan type plastic that slips into place and held in by pressure. Well designed. Haven't put it to the test yet, but looks like it will do well... . So I've been looking for something to protect those xpensive fog lights!!

The two sites mentioned above: Look good but does this 3M plastic glued to a plastic lens actually prevent breakage? I can grasp a glancing blow or a small rock, but a biggie coming head on? Wow. I gotta call them up and hear the pitch.

And boy, the prices!! Wow. Expel has a kit for headlights and fogs that's reasonable, but is that the best product out there? Anyone have experience with it?

Thanks!

Richard

Geno's Garage also has a stick on clear lexan cover for the lights, says they are 80 mil thick. I think they cover the headlights as welll as the fogs.
