7th gear - Did I mess up my transmission?

Really tired driving home last night after the side job from hell and I can't remember how or why I did it... but instead of going into 5th gear I grinded reverse for a second... TWICE!



What a dope, huh? Anyway, should I be worrying or should it be ok? Should I change my transmission fluid? The truck only has 300 miles on it. I did a seach and all I found out was that may be cause it to grind going into reverse later on.

I thought there was supposed to be a lock-out to prevent this. I've never tested it, but I'll probably be more careful in the future. Could it have been in 5th, but not fully engaged (maybe a linkage needs adjustment?)?

My 03 has 65000 miles on it and the transmission hasent fallen out yet.

Don't worry about it unless you actually get it to go into reverse. Nothing wrong with a listtle gear smoothing.

prolly time to change transmission oil anyway. pull both pto covers and see if ya have a chunk of gear on the magnet. then u mind can be at ease

I wouldn't worry about it I have never ground REV by accident but I have let people drive my truck that were not used to the 6spd and they all hit REV by mistake, it happens I wouldn't make it a daily happening ... lol

I have done that several times. It is H3LL driving a 6-speed and two five speeds on a daily basis. I also have found myself trying to put the 5-speed into 6th. It will not allow it to go into or grind reverse, but the 6-speeds will sure grind if you try to engage 7th. My dream transmission: 7-speed with reverse in the CORRECT location (full right and back). Oh well, at least the 6-speeds are now time proven and tough and CAST IRON. Beats the cheesie ford recycled beer can transmission!

There is a lock out if you try to go from 6th directly to reverse. That particular feature has saved my rear on more than 1 occasion.
