In September I ordered an update for my Navigation maps. The FCA website said:
FCA- 2015 NORTH AMERICAN MAP FOR UCONNECT® 8.4A OR 8.4AN NAVIGATION SYSTEM (RA3 or RA4)

When I went to install the update, the system said my installed maps were Version NQNA2011Q4 and the new version I was about to install was NQNA2013Q4.

Is this truly the map version? I called FCA and was directed to "HERE" who apparently makes the maps for our systems. They said that the "version number" was actually the copyright date and I was OK to proceed with the installation.

This makes no sense to me. If the maps are copyrighted in 2013, then that is how old they are. Why are they being represented as 2015 maps?

Has anyone ordered an update recently? What did you receive?

Thanks,

Al

When I called the first time I was told that if I called back I could request a return. I did that. The representative I spoke to this time said that the version number represents the date of the map that the data was extracted from and the time until release was taken by FCA to approve the maps. Even if this is true, we are receiving maps that are already out of date, in my case by three years. This is unacceptable to me. I requested a refund and was told that they would send the request to corporate and get back to me within 2 business days.

My 2013 & 15 have the same maps, I never notice any differences, I took ownership of the 2015 in April 15, US 169 was updated / Routed in late 14 and both Maps show the old Ramps and roads.

I was recently told to wait until Dec as new maps will be release then. The current latest in May 2015. My truck was built in Dec 2014 and has old maps. Snoking

Don't tow a RV using their GPS. It will send you down some real goat paths ! I had a portable RV GPS and thank god for that because I don't know what company they use but driving cross country with it is the worst! Really sub par.

Roger on the goat paths. Check out the route first if you can to know what road not to take so it will reroute. I wish the route planning side was a little easier. I've gotten a little more use to the unit and used it almost exclusively on my weeklong trip to Ft Lauderdale. I did compare the initial route to Google maps before I left. It had me exiting the interstate one exit before I would have liked to so I could avoid traveling through neighborhoods. I skipped that exit and it rerouted to the one I wanted. After that for the rest of the week I let it do the routing and was OK with it. It even routed me so I didn't have to do any u-turns or turn across (left) the other lanes to get to my destinations in the city.

Had the same issue with my 2010, they released old maps, if at all, and when they did, they were 150$+, and at least a year old.

This time around on my 16, i shopped away from the bigass radio, got the 5.0 radio, and bought a standalone garmin with free updates. Have updated it every quarter since feb, have been very happy with it. And if it fails, its about 250. If the radio fails (out of warranty) god knows what that would cost.

I know this doesnt help you now, but i kept it in the back of my head for the next purchase

You would think that a 3500 would be loaded with RV map data....but Noooo. We have to have a seperate Garmin RV GPS. And if you take a road with a low bridge, its practically screams at you. The Ram GPS is fine dumb and happy
even after you hit the low RR trestle.

As usual, TDR is a good source of information. My 2015 factory Nav. is seriously out of date, the roads have been active for quite some time. I will wait, hopefully for the December map updates.

My 14 Durango 8.4 has a 2011 map. I'm waiting for the right time to update too. For passenger car use it's fine. It even shows the route of the lake Champlain ferry en route between NY and VT.

I agree about the goat trails... I can't imagine we don't have the ability to give the system some outline parameters like you do a Garmin.... I just wish my Garmin has a screen about 2xs larger than it does to get a better picture of what's around me...

I was told this week that it now would be June 2017 before a new update would be ready. Since I have a Garmin and a Rand McNally with free lifetime updates they can go xxxx themselves.

I plan to get the new Garmin RV unit. They claim it will be out this month. The old one is discontinued but you can find them on sale.

I have used Garmin for a long time and most of the time they are great.
I use their "base camp" free software to plan trips and then load them into the GPS.

Vehicle NAV systems are so lame. I don't know why they don't team up with folks that know GPS mapping.
