When we travel, we often listen to recorded books. The 8.4AN radio has the neat option to allow an IPOD to be connected via the USB port in the center console. All well and good except when I chose the IPOD and start playing a book the playback speed is too fast and it sounds like the "Chipmunk" song. I have figured out that if I go to another selection and play some other selection on the playback list (it is something called the "best ring tone" - don't know where it came from I never put it on the IPOD) it will play at the right speed, then, if I reselect the audio book, it will play at the correct speed until power to the radio is turned off and then the whole process starts over. The radio has had the recent flash and still does it (before and after the flash). Any ideas?

NOT to hijack the thread, but to expand on topic. BUT do the Rams with the 8.4 AN have any volume or tone issues up and down the volume range? Reason I ask, is in my sig my '14 Durango with same head unit but different amp/ speaker system is having trouble maintaining tone and balance above and below a certain volume (10). I was wondering if Rams have similar issue? This topic is on fire on dodgedurango.net where I'm also a member.

OK, trying to experiment with earbuds I discovered my power cord is faulty and the IPOD battery is dead. So, I will get back to this after getting a new cord and recharge the IPOD. Thanks for the replies.

Ok, back to my original post - I originally posted the following "When we travel, we often listen to recorded books. Finally got the IPOD working (nothing wrong except a completely discharged battery). Playing the book through ear buds works perfectly. No issues except when playing through the USB port in the console. After going through the process I described the playback works just fine (pause, resume, fast forward, rewind, etc). Any ideas.

How old of an iPod are you using? Do you know the iOS version? If it's too old, there may be a compatibility issue. Have you tried a Bluetooth connection?

The IPOD is about 4 years old. How do I check the IOS version? Haven't tried bluetooth just trying to figure out why it works after starting another selection but won't start right off with the book recording. Seems to me that if the recording is in a wrong format or the IPOD is the wrong IOS version it wouldn't play at all. Just irritating. It is so convenient using the IPOD through the USB port!

4 years is pretty old for an iPod. I would make sure it has the newest update it can run. If you have time, get to your mall where an apple store is and sit down with them. They're excellent and will make sure all the settings are right and help updating the system. Personally, I use an iPhone, which is very similar, and it's synced up (Bluetooth) to the 8.4AN in the '14 Durango and to the aftermarket sony radio in the 98 Durango. For hands free calling and streaming music that's stored on the phone, it works great. I also use it with a cassette adapter via headphone output in my 04 ram. Either way it works great.
