8.4AN trailer hitch settings

Our trailer weights 10,050 lbs dry,adding around 1000 lbs with propane,dishes,clothing,vacumn cleaner,mops etc,etc.Should I set on the 8.4AN ITBM setting on "light electric",and see how this works with the gain assist setting or should I go with the 10,000lbs "heavy electric"setting right out of the gate.Is it a question of to much gain with light and then go to heavy or is just based on a engineering software that RAM has set up based on their testing on the ITBM,Exhaust brake,tow haul mode all working together in these 2 different setting's.

There is an adjustable parameter for different weight trailers? I have not found that one yet. My Laramie has the 8.4 screen, but I refused to pay $600 for the navigation. Can someone tell me where to look? Can't find it in the owner's manual.

I guess it could be different on a 2016 but on my 2013, from the 8.4 main screen, touch settings, scroll down to Trailer Brake. When you have one connected it shows the options.

Thank you, Kirwin. I did find the section in the owner's manual after I had made my post. The part about being hooked to the trailer is most likely my problem. Next time I have the fifth wheel hooked up, will find and adjust it. Have a great weekend!

Snoking it work really nice at that setting. I used the light setting and the gain at 4.5.The trailers brakes need to be broke-in for 100 miles or so.

Trailer brakes all vary so ridiculously much you really can't go by what someone else does. You need to set it yourself and each trailer you own will probably be different. I have 12 different trailers and everyone of them is a slightly different setting for optimal. some will slide the tires at 3.5 gain, most seem happy in the 6-7 area, one at setting 10 hardly works (new trailer with only a few thousand miles on supposedly "self adjusting" brakes, not real happy about that one)

Good rule of thumb is manually turn it up to where it will just slide the tires and then back it down a notch or two. You want the brakes to grab as hard as they absolutely can without locking up the tires.
