Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) #8 Plate and 370's???????

I was wondering, my dad has a '95 with a #8 plate right now and wants to dump a set of 370's in it. What kind of EGT's would he see with the stock WH1C turbo that is on it. I installed the plate and boost elbow for him, and gave his AFC screw a couple of turns. He will be running around town with no load. It is a 4x4 five speed truck. Thanks in advance.

Go for it... Right now I'm running w/out a plate and empty. EGTs aren't a problem, but watch the gauge (He has a gauge, right?). Smoke isn't a problem either if my foot isn't too heavy. WOT is a whole different story.

If he isn't an agressive driver, he should be fine. Just tooling around, I rarely get over 900* (pre-turbo). If I hammer down, off the line, I have seen around 13-1400*, even with the HX-40.

Sounds good, he plows the truck in the winter but now has an '01. 5 dually to tow anything he needs to. He drives really conservative, never beat on anything he owned-ever, so he should be fine. Thanks a lot guys.

The 370's often have a "ratty idle," but smooth out off idle. Kinda like a perf. cam in a gasser. If he's plowing with a manual, likely he's idling or just off idle alot, diesel has the torq. , so they maybe a bad choice in my opinion. I digress. . I installed some for a rancher. He ties the steering wheel down, puts it in 4lo in second or third and lets it idle across the pasture while he feeds. Then he jumps down turns the truck around then comes back across the pasture until he feeds that load of hay. They didn't work real well as he didn't want to use the manual "aux. throttle" for more revs and a lower gear. They also are cold blooded with the 370's. Timing advance helps some. Maybe be conservative and go for the 215's or DD II's. You might also consider the #10 plate, I think it helps the bottom end a tick more.



My dad likes more power too, but isn't/wasn't willing to give up ANY drivability. Not that I plow alot since living in Texas, but I haven't always lived here where its 70 deg. the last three days. .

Silly me. Why would you want to increase your Hp if you didn't have a heavy foot? I did not get a rough idle with the 370's.



Were it not for the straight pipe, I really don't think you could tell my truck from stock. I dynoed at 250 hp, and added stuff since then (including 16 degree timing) that should have brought me up to about 380 hp.
