IM THINKING ABOUT PUTING A #8 PLATE IN MY 98 NON-EGR 5-SPEED. WILL IN NEED TO CHANGE TO 16CM HOUSING TO KEEP EGT'S DOWN? HOW MUCH POWER WILL THIS COMBO MAKE?' :D :D

See my sig... . Ive got a #8 in a 5 speed, but Ive also got a BHAF and big exhaust... and it will get warm if I stay in the throttle too long... but by then, Im at 100mph+! You'll like it!

The correct plate, #11, will give a bit stronger mid range, but less power over about 2400 because it gives less fuel = egt. You can't safely use much more top end fuel than the 11 with the HX35/16 housing. If you want more power, why not get the #10 and quit playing around with those automatic trans plates?

Slide plate back temporarily

Could a person slide the plate backward to keep power level lower, and then when they get the clutch and other upgrades, slide the plate forward again to take full advantage of the power? How much would they have to slide the plate back to get from the normal #8 power level to about a #10 power level?

Wouldn't this be cheaper and easier than buying one plate now, and then after the clutch and/or transmission upgrades are done, having to buy another plate?

Just wondering.

I asked Piers the same question a while back.

He told me that if my cluch was in good condition, and move the plate back about . 030, it should be about 300 hp, and the cluch SHOULD hold.

Some guys are well above 300 with the stock cluch. Depends on your perticular rig.

As for myself, I wont BOMB anything else until I do the cluch.

I had a Banks 62408 - I think the same as 8. I only have pencil tracing to look at now but if you slide the 11 forward about . 070", it will be close to the 8 on top end. It looks like the 11 start at lower rpm though, hence better mid range. Mine can handle a lot more than the 11 centered but probably not the 8. Craig
