My 8 way power seat has died (intermittently). It will do nothing, no up, no down, no backwards, no forwards. I checked the connector under the seat, OK.
Removed and checked the 10 amp fuse inside the box at the side of the dash, OK. Checked the fuse box under the hood, nothing for the seat. Before I dig into my manual and truck I wanted to send this out to see if anyone has had the same situation. I wouldn't care but the wife sets the seat up like she's driving a lowrider.
Thanks folks,
Steve

I had the same problem with my 98. 5. What it turned out to be is that the wire from the control switches had been worn through between the seat and the panel on the seat where the switches are. A quick fix and I had power seat again. It took some time before I found the problem. Mine had a circuit breaker in the fuse panel that had triped and never reset

Start trouble shooting by checking to make sure you're getting 12VDC at the seat with a volt meter or test light. Sounds like the problem to me...

I also had a problem w/ intermittent and finally no electric seats on my '96 Ram. Turned out there is a connector under the dash that the contacts weren't making good connection.

Don't have my facory manual handy right now to give specific connector or exact location.

Seat problem on my 99: one of the buttons does not work but the other 2 work. Surely it is in the switch. Took it in for warranty and they said they had to order the part. I take it back this week to get repaired.

Steve, I posted a message a few months ago that told about my power seat failure and its fix. The wire bundle that comes up from under the seat to to control switches on the left side of the seat wore through the insulation and shorted out. When you sit on the seat the cushion squeezes the wires between the seat and a sharp metal edge that cuts the insulation and shorts the feed wire out. I filed the edge and bent it down, spliced and taped the wires and it works.
The new trucks have some padding along the sharp edge. My truck also has a circuit breaker .

I had a similar problem with my clearance lights. The firewall connector has pins that are too small to handle the load. I bypassed the firewall connector and have had no more problems. Find the weak link and improve on it!

Took it in for repair because the switch didn't work and they said the switch was a part of the seat and they ordered a complete new seat. That's right, the whole enchilada. Can you believe that? I'm sure glad it was under warranty.

Thanks for all the input. I think I'll start at the seat. I noticed that since the truck is so high the wife kind of slides off the side of the seat to get out. The cushion gets pushed down into the seat frame, very well could be the problem.
PS. The wife is 5'7" 125 lbs so you guys that were thinking she's 5'2" and 220 sorry, she's a lean mean fighting machine;o)
Thanks again,
steve
