Can anyone in Los Angeles offer advice?

Hi mileage

A neighbor who has a phord power joke just had to have a new water pump @ 80,000 miles, $800. Is this the normal charge or did he get ripped off?? He said they had to remove the radiator, and bunches of other stuff just to even get to it.

@80k I Believe that should have been under his warranty shouldn't it?? I know they will replace the crapass Dual Mass Flywheel under the 100K PSD Warranty... he might have taken it up the shooter on that one

SBC, do you offer an exchange or something? Just asking so I know for next time.

Badfish, I have no idea why he didnt take it for warranty just prob assumed it was out. Ouch!

I like to rebuild the ones off the vehicle so there are no problems. sometimes there can be different ports or different pulley mount heights. Have you ever gotten something out of a box and put it on to find out things are not lining up.

Or you do the right thing and match it up before you install it and then finding something wrong but the part stores are closed.

It might take a little longer but you can rest assure that what you get is the one for the truck or tractor.

You can get them from NAPA for 2-3 hundred, if I remember right. The kicker? Last one I ordered in for a guy, I opened the NAPA box, and the water pump was in a FORD wrapper. NAPA had appearantly bought some from the Ford supplier. Now, if NAPA can buy them and mark them up and make money and still sell for half of what the dealership does, how much mark up do you think the dealerships put on those things? SHEEZE!

I read a comparison of IHC / Cummins parts costs some time back, and recall that the Cummins water pump is about 70 bucks and the PSD pump was about 275.

800? someone is pulling someone else's chain.

I've heard that the labor involved is what drives the price up. Just like a friend of mine had the Ford dealer change his spark plugs while his T-bird was in to get his oil changed. Well he was in total shock when he went too pick up his car and got the bill:eek: They had charged him 6. 0 hrs for just the spark plug replacement.

I my humble opinion , I wish Admin would reconsider #6 This site is for the exchange of information or knowledge and I consider SBC's response to be information as much as an "advertisement". I can understand Admin not wanting "advertisements" in the forums, but a vendor responding to a question / complaint about a failed part is helpful. Please dont ban me from the site or throw rocks at me, it's just another point of view.

Texas Diesel - I agree too! Anyhow. The list price over the Parts counter for a PSD waterpump is about $450 for a rebuilt pump. Your local Navistor dealer can sell You a complete NEW pump for about $269 list. And Ford has had problems with Their rebuilder too. Some pumps have been delivered with broken castings, bent shafts, impellers not pressed on far enough. It's just a case of Ford trying to get a Little Too Fat off the PSD.
