I want to thank HVAC(Performance Diesel) for his tutorage today in my injector swap--THANKS A BUNCH--went real smooth-- #ad

Found a loose intake bolt & blown intake gasket #ad
which will have to be replaced pronto--this looks like real fun as the injector lines look like they'll have to removed to do this--I think this explains the check engine light that came on a couple of weeks ago and then again today on the way back from Performance Diesel--

Let's get back to the fun--man what power with the DDIII's and the Power Edge and EZ and DTT vb & tc--must've looked a little funny(scary) #ad
to the folks driving by with the big ol' 4x4 red sled gettin sideways and smoke from tires and 4" exhaust--but to me I was all smiles #ad
and am still smilin' and will be for some time to come(can't think about the the dead HX40 or blown gasket)--come here little pherdy, pherdy wanna play I will eat CUMMINS smoke with the king of POWER #ad
--THE MIGHTY CUMMINS==life is good!!!!

THANKS again HVAC #ad
... ... ... ... . chris

Chris,

Sounds great. Especially since that is nearly identical to what's going in mine next weekend. Can't wait to feel the power!! #ad

I replaced my blown intake gasket a while back... its about a foot long, four inches wide. I only removed the first three injector lines, then pulled the top plate forward towards the radiator til it was clear of the rear three. This job looks much harder than it is. You will also have to remove the throttle assembly bracket to do this.
Tools: 19mm, 13mm, 10mm, and an 8mm. That should about do it. I got the new gasket from Cummins. Good luck!

Thanks for the info Rob--that was going to be my approach and was hoping I wouldn't have to remove most of those lines--now I know---thanks again-----chris

Chris, your truck is awesome with the new injectors! #ad
#ad
You need to have that rear end checked out cause it's deffinately slippin' #ad
Sorry 'bout the damage to your rear tires #ad
Heheheee #ad

Today we installed III's in "Rock Tumblers" truck and he also has the auto transmission with upgrades. He has a real sweet ride with new found power. Sooo sweet! We had a bunch of dieselologists hangin' out. Smokescreen was here, Rich showed up, Craig was here, and Jason too. We have our own Half Moon Bay nautical chapter goin' on #ad

HVAC,

Just how much smoke do you get with DDIII's. I'm running DD1's and a PS boost module and I was just wondering. Is there a really big difference with DDII's? Will I need to upgrade my 6 speed transmission?
Thanks for all of the great comments.

Thanks in advance,

Charles

Charles, You might try putting an EZ on. Its about the same price as injectors but a whole lot easier to put on or take off.

so far the only smoke is low speed & you hammer it and then it's only a small cloud(relatively speaking) and when the boost picks up it's clear--really a whole lot better than I thought it would be--now this is with the EZ & stock turbo on my '99--it doesn't matter if the PE is on or off--the truck just flat out moves---it's great-- chris

Hey Tom C,

What is an 8276 winch???? When are you going to start bombing your truck?

csutton7,

Tried to email you twice, both came back undeliverable. Please email me, and I can then reply.

Thanks, Big Bob.

The 8276 is a model number for a warn winch.

IMO the Stage III or II injectors are fine as far as smoke goes. With the combo of the larger injectors and EZ or VA modules you can create smoke by flooring the throttle. But, with the EZ that we offer one can slightly delay the fueling till more boost is generated. This results in less smoke. If you drive normally then smoke is not a problem. Although what fun is that! #ad

way to go chris!!

you're gonna have to give me a ride. funny how bombing put off because of lack of funds gets funds found when you get to feel it in the seat of the pants!!

later...

I think he meant the WARN 8274 Upright Winch. Good winch with the longest cable, 150 ft.

The DDII's with the EZ on setting #3 are too much fun. Put the EZ on #2, and it changes too much, went back to level #3 on the EZ.

You will get smoke if you nail it too hard. Once boost is up, it is gone.

Way to go Chris! It is so nice to see that you found a positive end to your search for crazy power! I too know what it's like to not be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Positive thoughts enhance the very few good things and help you get through the bad. It hurts more to not try at all than to rebound from a temporary loss.

changed out the intake manifold gasket and I didn't remove one fuel line--it was tight, but it's doable-removed a couple of the keepers and loosened a couple of more and got her in-I'm not to impressed with the gasket fit as there is minimal mat'l in some areas so I used some "the right stuff" as back up (thanks Brandon) and we'll see how this holds up--just hope I don't have to take it off as it will be a major undertaking with this stuff on there---chris

chris , isn't that a great combo ? heres a word of caution, NO brake stands with the PE turned on , at least not above your level one and keep the boost below 20 psi , maybe 10 is all you will need , things directly behind the the transmission may be adversely affected #ad
