So what does the Future hold for your truck?

The 'infamous' 5. 7 diesel really isn't that bad of an engine after 1981 (I think that's the year the DX block was introduced) - except the head gaskets. They used junk head bolts, they would stretch, and the head gasket would leak. Put a new set of gaskets on with head studs and the problem is gone. Sometimes I wish I still had my '83 Olds Delta 88 diesel.

My cousin Mickey, retired from the Tulsa P. D. drove an Olds-mo-bubble Diesel for 150,000 miles and never had a single problem with it. I drove it too many times and it drove great. Mickey always packed heat even after being retired! There was always a loaded '38 special tucked in the center console of that Olds! :-laf

Yeah if I came across a clean 81+ GM car with the 5. 7 I'd be interested in picking it up. ARP does have studs for the heads and mains, and you can get a 4-bolt main kit too.

No thanks. A friend of my departed Uncle had one in an Olds. Funny thing was when I got to his place after school the car was in front of the shop running but it sounded funny. I asked what was going on and he said that somehow the crank broke. The front 4 cylinders were running and the back 4 were not. I didn't understand how that would be possible at the time since I was pretty young.
