Gen 1 Dodge Cab manual trans swap in a 85 cab

1982 Chevy 4x4 4bt cummins on the dyno

I have had the suburban for a year now with the intent to diesel swap it. this week I found my cummins. 93 ram 2wd auto. i got the burb for $450 and the ram for $2500. the cummins has 112k miles on it. In the morning I will post pictures. I have a guy at work willing to buy the 454 and th400 and his dad needs the ram cab. So all in all I will make out well. $2950 spent... $1000 for old engine trans and cab= $1950. . the burban is in sweet shape.

I will keep every one posted!

I have a 91burb and a 01 24V waiting to go together. Unfortunately I lack the cash and knowledge for the marriage part.

I will be watching your progress for my 'education'.

Good luck!

I done a 83 burb 6. 2 1/2 ton 4x4 to a 12valve 1 ton 4x4 fits good 2wd should be no problem

ok I am missing something, whats the best way to put pictures on this page?

Burban body parts and interior ordered from LMC. Next weekend open I will pull the burban apart. I looked the trucks over today and with all the info on the net and pictures it looks like it will be a easy swap. Seeing that my day job we re-power semi trucks from Cat engines to Detroit to Cummins all day long.

Im in the process of doing a 96' burb 2wd. 6. 5 out 12v in. If you need to get mounts, Tennesee Diesel conversions is a good place to shop. Scott Oswalt is very knowlegable. So far on mine, the one thing I didnt expect was to have to relocate the A/C compressor. I should have the new mount done this week. About the pics. If you click on the "Manage attachments" in the additional options section, you should be able to figure it out.

Got all the LMC truck parts needed. to do a good clean update of the truck its self. not much started yet my wife van needed work first! sorry!

Sounds good. Keep the wife going. (Happy wife= Happy life) LOL! I just got done making the brackets to relocate the alternator and AC compressor. Let me know if you need either of these when you get to that point. I can make more if you need them.

sweet i will let you know. My plan is this week to get the engine and trans out of the burban a guy at work is buying those and use that money to add to the pot. I am looking to do a good clean job and it will take time. Very buys coaching the girls softball team and games and work so bear with me. I am a diesel mechanic and have worked on tons of burbans and rams. the last time i pulled a cummins out it took just under a few hrs. and the 454 should be a breeze. I alos have my dads 86 silverado needing a 350 installed and also a guy at work needed injectors in his duramax so I have to pick my posion. the injector job will pay good so that will add yet more money in the pot!

Sounds good. Take your time. I did the same thing as far as selling extra parts to help lower the total cost. I purposely have to tell myself to slow down sometimes. I get excited about the project being done. I dont want to rush thru something just for the sake of getting it done and then be dissappointed with the job I do.....

any advise on the trans shift selcetor to adapt from the GM to the dodge trans? I will be pulling engine tomorrow. also link to the pully needed for a gm alternator?

got the drive way parked to make it easy to pull both engines. Got the rad support out and front apart on the burb. What a mess of oil grease and rusted everything.

no picts needed its just the front core support.

tomorrow fenders and engine.

should I go with burban radiator or go with Cummins radiator?

Again any ideas to convert the Gm shift lever to dodge trans?

engine ready to pull, just need rain to go away. I did find a trans shift rod in Summitt that can work the Gm steering shifter to the dodge trans.

If your using the intercooler from the dodge it may not fit around the radiator from the burb. I used the intercooler and a new replacemet radiator from a 1st gen dodge so the intercooler would fit around it. I had to fab new radiator mounts to drop it down 1. 25 in. As far as front to back it fit like a glove. I will try to post some pics on my thread soon.
