Are Fuel Tank Additives Necessary

I've been sitting around for most of the last 6 weeks with a broken foot. I'm finally allowed to drive again (short distances only!) and it's been 6 months and 8500 miles since I purchased the truck so, it is off to the dealer for a couple of issues and my first oil service.
I purchased the truck 1500 miles away from here so I had to go find a dealer I liked locally. In the end I went to Tasca as they treated me well with warranty issues on my previous Ford. Not the closest dealer but I like the people I spoke to before coming in.

First up is the removal of the oil filter. I've read a lot on how difficult this is and... it sucked!
As we were rotating tires (hand torque only please!) the tech removed the front right wheel and really struggled to get that filter loosened from the wheel well. After the new filter was finally on it was easy and the engine has 3 new gallons of synthetic Rotella 5w-40.
Now, we took a good look at the front tires. I always felt that they were wearing too fast. You could feel the feathering from the first week of driving the truck. The service manager agreed and after first rotating the tires, it was on to the alignment tack where it was verified that the truck had too much toe-in. Warranty paid for alignment and in the end we have .05 degrees of toe down from .6 degrees. The truck feels better now just going down the road.
The final issue is my silly Nav. The thing is possessed but another software download was performed yesterday so I will give it a chance before calling it defective.

All in all, it was a worthwhile $180.00 for service and a couple of no charge warranty issues. They let me hang out and watch, washed and vacuumed my truck and basically have a blast! They put up with my questions, did everything I asked, were pleasant and made it easy! No question I made the right decision on my local dealer!

Now, to get this foot healed!
Bruce

Bruce, was the $180 for the oil change or other services? My 2015 came with 5 free oil changes. Can't image that the 2016's would be different.

Don

Oil service, tire rotation and upgrade to Rotella synthetic.
I purchased the truck 1500 miles from here and it was heavily discounted. I believe the dealer offered oil changes for some time too but...

I have mine serviced at a dealer closer to home rather than where I bought it and they reminded me about the 5 free changes. I use strictly Amsoil in all my vehicles so I take my oil with me and they swap out the filter and change the oil for free.

The oil changes come with the manufacturer warranty. But the dealer might be tempted to charge you for a synthetic upgrade. Some dealers will upgrade you for free if tgey think you're going to continue getting oil changes there. The oil changes are only good for 2 years if i am correct. Not good for the entire 3 year manufacturer warranty

They never mentioned a time limit. I just assumed that it would be 5 at 15k mile intervals. I will be taking mine back again in a couple months for service so I'll be sure to ask........Don

It could have changed since 2013. I received a pamphlet from the dealer i bought the truck from in my mailbox a few weeks after purchase describing the oil change provision in the warranty. Back then it was 4 oil changes...(within 2 years)..... of course the truck came with oil in it and a filter installed, so that would be 5 allotments of 12 quarts, and 5 filters. I basically had the oil changed at the dealer every 4-5 months.

It might be 5 changes now that come with the warranty according to those owning 2015's+

I have used mostly Amsoil, but am looking into other brands. The oil analyses posted on here have been quite informative. I still like the option that Amsoil provides of full synthetic 15w-40. It just feels like i should be running that in florida as opposed to full synthetic 5w-40. I know others will disagree with me, and try to convince me otherwise. But i'm ornery.

I think you are confusing the arguments. I seriously doubt anyone would try to convince you otherwise of your choice. What they (me, and a few others) would argue is if you were to say you MUST use 15w40, or that you would risk increased wear or damage by using 5W40. The key being at running temps, they are both 40 weights.

Maybe i am confusing arguments. I am not saying that one is thicker than the other at operating temps. I don't need the cold flow characteristics of the 5w40. Diesel oil can be 15- 20% additives. If i don't need the extra additives that is in tbe 5w40, i will stick with the 15w40. I also don’t buy the extended drain amsoil because i don't run my oil more than 10,000 miles. The extended oil change interval oil also has additives i don't need to keep acidity down and soot emulsified, etc. I usually use the OE amsoil full synthetic because it has a lower % of additive. Less additive means more lubricating oil (by percent). However, i will try 5w 40 for the first time in November.

My son runs the AMZ/OIL 15-40 "OE" synthetic. His results are below. 15K on the oil and 30K on the clock. Looks like the OE is good for 15K change intervals.

Where does it say that you get free oil changes?

Since it came with synthetic oil from the factory shouldn't the free ones be synthetic as well?

I've already paid for 3 oil changes so I need a paper showing free so that I can rub their noses in it.

It doesn't..........;)
