80 chevy getting a cummins hopefully

Is it possible to convert an '86 3/4 ton Dodge 4x4 with the 360 to a Cummins. This is waaaay beyond my capabilities, so are there any shops who do this? HAS anyone here on TDR ever done it? If so, was it successful? Any idea of costs? I know that the Cummins engines weigh alot more than a gasser engine, so does the frame, suspension, etc. need to beefed up? Sorry for so many questions, but just trying to find out if this is doable, or even worthwhile.

Thanks in advance,

Bryan

If you found an 89-93 Dodge Cummins 4X4 then it would be a slam dunk, bolt in swap. Its do able, but the frame on the first gens is heavier, and the first gen diesels all came with dana 60 front/70 rear, your 86 likely has the dana 44 front and 60 rear, both will not like the new cummins if you work the truck.

As far as shops, I could not tell you, it would be a straight forward swap, but you might want to just take the cab/bed/front clip off the 86 if its real nice and put it on a well worn first gen truck.
