i got an 87 international s1600 dt466 and i cant get it started... i was crankin it over and all of a sudden it stopped cranking... . i have full juice ... . i thought it was the starter but i whacked on that with a hammer for a bit thinking the starter was stuck but to no avail... . any suggestions?

Is the solenoid on these things located up on the firewall? Mine is 20 miles away or I would find out now. I would check solenoid connections or short around them to test it. Hope this helps.

Midwest, if your truck has a "remote mount" solenoid, you can follow the battery cables from the battery, to the solenoid, to the starter. It should be that easy. You should be able to short the battery cable to the little post that triggers the start solenoid to check operation. HTH

I just saw another thread about a DT466 and it was suggested these may have a solenoid on the firewall and one on the starter as well. The one on the firewall might be a big honkin relay [basically the same thing as a solenoid].

How many batteries do you have? Mine is supposed to have three in a series 750 amps each. I am getting by with two 1000 amp Walmart , but that is not a lot of reserve.

I hope to get to the truck on 4/24 . I'll have a look for you.

I would suggest a very good wire brushing of all the battery terminals I put copper never seize on mine as well. charge the batteries as well , but that will not help if they are dirty or one is shorted.
