Is this a problem?

OK I have a 87 chevy suburban 4x4 with a blowed 6. 2. I would love to put a cummins 12 valve in it. It all ready has a rebuilt th400 and a rebuilt gearvenders overdrive in it so I was think I could bolt the cummins to this! I have surched for adaptures and any enfo I can find on the enternet and have found its been done. Can some one tell me who sell a kit for this or just the parts them self? I would rather put a used cummins in than a rebuilt 6. 2/6. 5.

OK Here is the up date. I have the engine out of the 93 dodge and with reading all the poast on the getrag 360 I desided to go ahead and order a newlly rebuilt NV4500 that will bolt up to my 12 valve CTD on one end and bolt to the NP208 Tansfercase on the other end. I have just started pulling the blowed engine out of the suburban, taking my time marking any wires I can find to make rewirring easyer latter. Oh ye the resone I desided to go with the manual in sted of the th400 was the truck has 4:10 gears and at 2500 rpms I would get a little over 55 mph with my gearvenders overdrive and with a little masuring, the th400 with the adapture plate would move the engine one to two inches fowerd. Thats the last thing I need. Im planing on using the GM altanater but Im woundering If the power stering pump on the cummins would work on the GM hydro brake buster or should I try to convert the truck to vacuum boost brakes? Any way Im taking pics of everything so Ill get them on soon. ::D

Maybe use the pump on the cummins and the housing from your chevy? Seems like the only difference is the dual return lines on the hydroboost chevy. You could make a bracket to secure the res. up high, be better that down under the injection pump anyway!! I could be wrong though. At any rate it will be very cool!!!

Thanks I feel alott better about that. :D Now Iv read some pro and cons on witch ratiater to use? The chevy 4 cor cross flow or the dodge's! Im not sure of the room yet, Im wating for the trans to start fitting everything in to the truck. Be for I put the engine in the truck Im thinking of replacing the main seals, Is ther somthing els I should do while it's out and easer to get to? And can any body tell me if the ECM is going to work with some of the devises desconected? Like the aoutmatic trans, injection pump throtel sen, This is gooing to take longer than putting the mottor in!

What ECM????

Manual trans- speedo from the GV OD

Fuel-done

Oil Pressure, volts & water temp That will be no problem.

If I was doing it I would throw the OE gauges out, fab a piece of aluminum for the bezel then you can mount gauges in it, like 2 5/8" autometer and 3 1/2 or 5 speedo and tach. I had an old chevy truck I did it to. I even remounted the a/c controls over in the dash- where the centermost vent was and had room for eight 2 5/8 gauges up high 4 on each angled piece of the dash

NV4500 to NP208

Ok. Im getting ready to put the engine back in for the last time and am consernd about the trans out put shaft spline? How does this get lubercation? The transfercase hase a seal in the frount and the TH400's trans fluid kepted it lubed. Will the trans lube be high enouph to lube the out put shaft, should I over fill the trans? Iv heard of splines going out with only a few thousand miles on them!

On my 4x4 NV4500 (it's the Chevy version with a Dodge input), there isn't a rear seal in it and gear oil splashes out and over the t-case input shaft.

nv4500 to np208 fit

I see there are several here who have mated the nv4500 to the np208. I'm having a problem mating my '95 dodge nv4500 to my '85 dodge np208. It seems I can only pull the two together and it stops short of fully mating up by about 3/16". I used some clay to check where the interference was and found it to be the aluminum front seal retaining end of the np208 hitting aluminum housing of the nv4500. Has anyone else had this problem? do I have to make a 3/16" spacer plate for the boltup faces?
