Hello I have an 89 engine I got from a guy that was all apart. I have rebuilt with all new internal parts and am attempting to put fuel system together. The fellow seemed to just pull all the old lines off as none of them seem to match up well. Does anyone have a picture or drawing of how these guys go from the pump to injecctors?? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you, Marc

Marc,

Firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4. #1 pump port is at the bottom. Direction of rotation is clockwise from front of engine. Put the line close to the pump, and see where it goes, as far as general area. Unless the guy really stretched and mangled the lines, they should tell fairly acurately where they go. You may have to bend them a little to get them to go where they need to. DOnt forget the little clamps that hold them onto the brackets. I know the non-IC trucks have different lines from the IC trucks. I have my first early first gen truck, and am learning little things about it- some good, some want to make me look for a tall cliff to jump form  . Good luck.

Daniel

PS- are you using the PS/ vacuum pump assembly? MOst likely you are, but if not, PM me.

Here's an idea that just may work... ... ... ... If the part number tags are still on the lines... ... ... perhaps someone with the same year truck could get the numbers off their lines then you can make sure you have the correct line on the correct cylinder. :D Alternatively, you could get your engine number, call Cummins, and if you ask nicely, they'll tell you the part numbers. ;)

I have tried the Cummins dealer around me and they can't or don't want to help me. . I have had better luck from my local Mack dealer so far... The biggest thing I need to know is where number 1 is on the pump... They did mangle these things up pretty bad... They did not set lock in pump so I have no idea if it is at top dead center... That is for another day!!!! THanks again, and any help is greatly appreicated... Marc

Look at the pump from the top dowm lining up the boost fitting on the aneroid with the center timing port on the pump. At the bottom of the pump the first port to the right should be the #1 port.

If the lines are mangled and bent you may be better off buying new lines. Any crimps or dings in the lines will effect the fuel pulse and screw up the injector opening. The ends of the lines are very sensitive to nicks and scratchs where they connect to the pump also. A small scratch leave you with a slow drip leak that can be tough to find. At the injector end you need to make sure to line up the fitting with the injector top keeping the line vertical from injector thru line fitting or you will have gremlins in the idle. If you take the CPL number to cummins they can tell you what lines go where and order new ones for you. If you have put that much effort into rebuilding the motor a new set of lines would be a good idea.

As for the pump, you may be farther ahead taking to a shop and having them set it for you. While your at it new seals and return springs for the pump cam will make sure you have a good pump to start with.
