I'm having the DTT stuff installed on Monday and am still swinging between 89 or 91% on the TC.

I hear that Bill reccomends the 91% for towing, but not in the CA truck (which I unfortunatly own). I plan on towing a 5er in the 8-9K lb range.

Anybody using a similar set up in CA truck?

How much of a difference is that 2% gonna make for towing and for regular driving?

Any input, particulary from similar set ups would be great!

When you find out, please post again. Why the exception for the CA truck? I thought there was no difference in the newer trucks?... . that the emissions were 50 state legal..... or am I just totally off my rocker?

I have been speaking to Bill and John (at HB Dodge) about this. The Reason I'm asking is cause I know there are several Rammeers that I'm aware of who own the CA truck and installed the 91%.

Scooby, I thought the same thing about our engines, mine is a 12v. I have been corrected by people who know alot more than I. The CA engine has some differences and is not the same engine as the federal engine that the rest of the country gets. I know, I know communist California. (I don't live here by choice!)

I was just hoping to hear from more with the 91% in the CA truck. We have a shi*load of traffic here and because my truck is daily driver for building & equipment for work, it sees alot of city driving.

I'm going to call Bill and when I get the word from the horses mouth (and after the install) I'll let everyone know. :) :)

I would talk to Bill K. to get the proper converter. I can tell you that I have the 89% and like it alot. Since I had 3. 54 gears I wanted a little extra rpm's to start from a standstill. If you are close to stock power levels I would go with the 89%. I added a DD True-Torque to help off the line acceleration which decreased due to the higher efficiency of the new converter. Good luck with your decision

I dont have a CA truck, but have not had any problems towing with my 91% so far. Tow a 7000 trailer and usually a lot of junk in the canopy. I only have a 230/605 plate at the moment. -- Make sure Bill knows you have a Power Pack.

I talked to Bill directly about this just a few days ago and he recommended the 89% for towing up to 10000 lbs I told him about.

Spoke to Bill

And he said that normally he reccomends the 89% for CA trucks. For those of you who are intersted in the difference, he explained that it is the way the PCM handles shift points. Although the PCM does not control the engine, it does control the shift points. This is also the cause of the high failure of CA trucks' transmissions. :(

Now, back to me question!!

In my case, mostly becuase of the 4:10 rear, he said he would go with the 91%. So this is where I go. I don't think the turbo lag will be a problem in my moderately BOMBed truck, and climbing the pass to get out of here will be easier. Thanks to Bill- maybe Gale Banks should give him a call to find out a thing or two about why he has so manny satisfied customers!!!:D :D :D

The above post(s) suggest a difference in recommended percentage ratings, both for California trucks AND the early/late generation trucks - as compared to other trucks.

Since I fully expect to soon upgrade the TC in my early '91 truck used for towing, I wonder what is generally recommended for them? Yeah, I know, I can ask Bill direct, but I'm curious as to experiences of other users...

DKEVDOG did you ever get you trans work done? and ifso were did you get it done at. What TC did you end up getting, the reason i ask as i plan on some trans work soon and looking for a good shop.

Thanks hutch

Work DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I got the work done, I went with the 91% based on speaking with Bill about my application. It is a bit harder to keep still in our So. Cal traffic, but not too bad. (Anybody got a good place to get brake pads cheap??:D  ) I am very happy with it so far, the real test will be pulling the yet to be purchased 5th wheel. Unloaded, holy Shi*!!! It's difficult to describe for those that have not driven one. The truck moves immediately and pulls clean through without hesitation and with less throttle. Yeah, I know, I know... ... ..... more throttle. . It's just not necessary around here, the only place to go is the next red light!!:p

I think the worst part of the installation, was... ... well maybe the second worst part was... ... I had to drive a Geo Metro for two days as a loaner!!!  Although- it would make a great golf cart or parking lot transport and I think it would fit in the bed of the Ram nicely!!:)

The WORST part of the install came when I got the call that my front lipseal leak was actually the front piston and retainer seal. (Like I actuall know what that is... ... ) Ben Franklin had to jump out of the wallet 5 more times to get me out of that one.

Keep rammin!!
