Good morning, Happy New Year. I’m doing some research for an axle swap and poking around on the ol interweb. I cant seem to locate the specific information I need. What gear ratios were available for the 89 model year SRW W350 trucks? Also, is it safe to say that the rear would be a D70 from the factory or could it have been a D60 as well? Thanks.

All the diesel powered D-250/W250, D-350 SRW/DRW and W-350 SRW/dually used D-70's. The '89 3spd auto used 3.07 gears, the manual used 3.54/4.10's. I have read that some manuals could be had with the 3.07 but never seen one. Good info here.

While I've never heard of 3.07s behind a 5spd from factory, I have seen Dana 61F and Dana 71 housings geared to 3.55 from factory.

But the norm was 3spd 727 auto with 3.07s and 5spd with 3.55s (4.10s as a factory option).

I had the opportunity to talk to/met a guy who swapped a 5spd in front of 3.07s (90 w250), he said it isn't really useful for anything but highway/grocery getter use (which is his main use of that truck for running parts, he had several)...he told me that you basically have four forward gears and 5th is only useful over 70mph. Forget towing a trailer around Pennsylvania hills, and that was him stating that. Him taking off from my driveway in 1st sounded like my 3rd gen taking off in 3rd (NV5600).

I met another guy at a car show with an 89/swapped a518/3.07 d250 and he said the same thing...OD is only good once you're rolling 70mph on interstate. But it was a show truck and not a work truck at his point so it worked to his favor...

I highly doubt Dodge would have built such a creature...
