Thanks guys.
Your right Vaughn, it's too easy to access right now to ignore it. Also after
looking at the condition of the other rubber lines, it's a no-brainer.
MFalkinham- Thanks for the heads up. I don't think I would want to put a loop in there though, it's cluttered enough in that black hole
TLG- Do you know if the prefilter/fuelheater assy is a cummins part? For some reason, after searching this site for hours, I was under the impression that it was a DC thing. I didn't bother to ask the Cummins parts guy- my bad. Thanks for the part number though- it will help others in future searches
Howard- It's funny you mentioned that. I'm kinda anal on how I put things together, so I measured the steel lines before I installed the hoses. I came across something interesting. I'm the 3rd owner of this truck, and it seems one of the PO's had done some "work" in that area. The rubber line from O/F to tank had been replaced with regular fuel hose, 2 different bootie-fab clamps on either end. The 2 steel lines back to the tank are 5/16. The steel line from the O/F valve is 5/16. The steel line to the inlet of the prefilter/ heater is 3/8? What the heck is that about, I said to myself, so I took the line off to check it out. The factory crimp clamp was on the tank side of the rubber line and a different aftermarket clamp was on the other, almost as if the steel line to the prefilter was replaced in attempt to "fix" some problem. I had to rework the whole thing. Sheesh.
RRB- How would that line spray fuel? It's on the suction side of the lift pump. It would more than likely leak air into the fuel supply I would think???
