I'm replacing the rubber lines with the good ones from LarryB, while I have the head off for a HG replacement. Also deleting the fuel heater. I probably should replace the 90 hose from prefilter to lift pump, or should I leave it alone? (160K miles)

What do you think? Anyone have a part number?

Thanks.

Fred

I believe you can get them at the dealer fairly reasonably ($6 or so). At the time I changed mine I thought the dealer would be too expensive, so I bought some straight fuel hose at Napa and put a loop in the middle. Works fine.

Fred, I see you also have a 94. You may want to actually measure the steel fuel lines on your truck. Mine are all 5/16" in diameter.

I used the kit from Larry B and wondered why one of the hoses was easier to install. I used them anyway and they appear to be OK although I am experiencing what I am thinking is an air leak on the supply line to the pump.

Amigo, I would definitely replace it if it is easy 2 do now. . I have replaced mine 3 X in 305K. . It is no fun 2 do on the road. . I sprayed fuel all over several passing cars B4 someone told me mine was leaking real bad... ((just my 2 cents worth, and it's free and worth just what U paid 4 it!) RamRunnerRob

Thanks guys.

Your right Vaughn, it's too easy to access right now to ignore it. Also after

looking at the condition of the other rubber lines, it's a no-brainer.

MFalkinham- Thanks for the heads up. I don't think I would want to put a loop in there though, it's cluttered enough in that black hole:D

TLG- Do you know if the prefilter/fuelheater assy is a cummins part? For some reason, after searching this site for hours, I was under the impression that it was a DC thing. I didn't bother to ask the Cummins parts guy- my bad. Thanks for the part number though- it will help others in future searches:cool:

Howard- It's funny you mentioned that. I'm kinda anal on how I put things together, so I measured the steel lines before I installed the hoses. I came across something interesting. I'm the 3rd owner of this truck, and it seems one of the PO's had done some "work" in that area. The rubber line from O/F to tank had been replaced with regular fuel hose, 2 different bootie-fab clamps on either end. The 2 steel lines back to the tank are 5/16. The steel line from the O/F valve is 5/16. The steel line to the inlet of the prefilter/ heater is 3/8? What the heck is that about, I said to myself, so I took the line off to check it out. The factory crimp clamp was on the tank side of the rubber line and a different aftermarket clamp was on the other, almost as if the steel line to the prefilter was replaced in attempt to "fix" some problem. I had to rework the whole thing. Sheesh.

RRB- How would that line spray fuel? It's on the suction side of the lift pump. It would more than likely leak air into the fuel supply I would think???

All parts for the fuel heater and prescreen are available through cummins although sometimes they have trouble finding them in their system. If you nedd any other numbers let me know Ill post them.

After reading this post I changed my 90* hose along with filter change and preheater removal. It had some cracks in it and only a short amount of time from leaking.
96 CTD w/160??? miles.
