A guy I do business with showed me his latest purchase today. He picked up a 91 1-ton with a tilt bed and winch. Not sure what he's gonna use it for but it's OK. Cab is rusted out, I could see thru the floor. The engine pops right off and runs smooth as can be.

Even though it's in pretty rough shape I thought $1650 was a heckuva deal for a Cummins. 239K, but the motor purrs.

Auto transmission that has suposedly been gone thru.

Was it a deal or not?

Sounds marginal with a bad body and all. I got an '89 with a plow for $250, started right up after sitting for 4-5 years. Then I saw the oil pouring out of the bell housing... ... ;)

(I wondered what the 3 cases of empty oil jugs in the box were from!) :-laf

A 4x4 Cummins that is mechanically sound and streetable is worth $2000-2500, with a shot body and no 2 panels matching. Throw in a fair to good body, and you are looking at $3500-4000.

I'd say he got a good deal. Does he want a blue cab? I know where a good one is. ;)
