I've noticed that my 91. 5 D250 LE Regular Cab shifts into drive hard. And same for Reverse. Also when shifting from Drive to Neutral... you can really tell the driveline is under load.

I guess the deal is that it feels like the engine is really pulling hard at an idle. I have to put good pressure on the brakes at all times when stopped cause it will take off pretty good at an idle. Should this truck pull so hard at an idle?

Shouldn't this thing at least have some stall? I dont think the idle is too high although I need a tach to tell. It sounds like a typical Cummins at idle... low and slow. Its just that even at that... this transmission really puts the power down constantly.

Has it always been like this? Has the injection pump been turned up recently? Idle higher than normal will cause this. My idle is borderline and can clunk at times between R, N, D. At one point I had it much too high and it was real bad. I backed off the fuel screw and modified my throttle linkage to get more travel to lower my idle. My brakes aren't the best either, so I usually put it in neutral at stoplights so as to not get pulled into the intersection:-laf:eek:.

Its been like this as long as I've had it... about two years. But I've driven it very little... so I've not done anything about it yet.

Guess I should at the very least confirm my low idle rpm. Then maybe some new u-joints just for the heck of it.
