when they where having problems with it over heating when hauling with the over drive on someone came up with an"oiler" for the overdrive was supposed to fix the problems. other than that it's as good trans mission as any.

PM Michael Miller. He knows a rebuilder in Iowa that is reputed to be good on the mods for the 518. The 518 is an OD version of the 727 Borgwarner transmission. If you have enough money, you can build them extremely tough. There are other shops that specialize in doing the Cummins ready transmissions. Most all of them are mentioned in these posts. Just dig into the previous posts.

If you tow, I would suggest a switch to a 47RH. The RH has a torque convertor with a lockup clutch. More effient and should get better MPG. It will be a bolt in swap, and can use a manual switch for the TC lockup clutch.

Other than that, a modded valvebody and tighter TC would work great with your trans. With the VB mods, it will have higher line pressures and better lube flow for the whole transmission, including the O/D.

www.gbtransmissions.com is in NE Ia. Give Dave a call. Love my RE.
