91 non intercooled

Looking a an 91 non intercooled, is this a big deal.

No there not a big deal , there is a write up project truck in one of the deisel magazines makeing almost 500 HP !!! you need to just watch your temp guage some have had cracked heads , but they did have larger injectors than intercooled some what

I had an 89 non intercooled best truck I ever owned, was a best friend for 11 years and over 500,000 miles.

I had an '89, too. I bought it as a bank repo in '94, drove it just over 400k, and sold it in '98. Three speedometers, one injection pump, one water pump, one alternator, two A/C compressors, and it made it's own payments. It brought $400 less than what I gave for it, despite the added mileage. Can't say as the rear and transmission didn't need some attention... ... .



I also had a '90 3spd auto. The original speedo quit @375k, and I drove it another 2 years... . probably another 40-45k. I sold it to a friend's little brother who loved it, who then sold it to their grandfather who still has it. He loves it. Drives his boss crazy, as he drives the Dodge most of the time and won't drive the brand new '07 F350... his reason? "I can fill the Dodge up ever other week, but the Ford has to be filled up every four-five days... . and I don't have to plug that da** ol' Dodge in when it's cold!":-laf

I had a 91 non IC truck. Damn thing rusted apart on me at about 200K miles, that's the only reason I sold it.

Mine is going strong. The odometer broke the day I drove it home @ 306,000 several years ago. I did have to replace the differential and injectors.



The "THING" you must be aware of is the little known fact that the ball bearing eccentric that drives the two vacuum pods will chuck the balls/cage into the timing case.



Ahem... ... ... This is bad.



If there is a rattle and/or squeek from the accessory drive, this bearing (cage and balls) are looking for a new home,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, inside the timing cover.



I rebuilt my acessory drive and replaced the p. s. pump/hoses etc. etc. for like 600. 00 and that included the two new vaccum pods. everything. You can do the same job much cheaper if you skimp/take shortcuts and hope for the best by simply replacing that bearing. I went the added mile on mine because I love overkill and I will drive this truck well into the future.



After the above rebuild, there was almost zero noise from the accessory drive, other than the two vacuum pumps plungering away.

Single digit temps this morning... no need for intercooling ... . we got enough outercooling. :-laf

I have my 1990 that I have had for 9 years. Has always looked after me and I it. I would love to say I didnt put any money into it but that would be a lie. Mine is also now intercooled/CACed.



Still the best truck and I dont see that opinion changing.
