A friend of mine has a 1992 1 ton dually 4x4 that's is well maintained.

My question is, the truck really seems to run hot according to the temp gauge. It will do it empty or carrying a camper and while having the boat in tow (mainly climbing moderate grades). The obvious stuff checks out okay. . ie coolant etc. !

Do these trucks have a problem getting hot ? If they do, what should be done to fix the problem ?

Any idea or suggestions / answers would be appreciated !

Thanks !

First, I'd verify that the gauge is accurate, and not suffering from Mopar Sender Syndrome (in other words, less than accurate). Most of the time, the t-stat sticks OPEN and causes minor problems, but I guess it is possible for it to stick shut. Check that, along with the usual- radiator clean and not clogged, etc.

yea like daniel said... check ur normal stuff... mine was i think still. . can't be sure. i checked the radiator it had a ton of white stuff on the ends. ran a radiator flush through it. rinsed it a couple of times (that is a pain to do with this truck) and refilled it. one suggestion. unplug the block heat. i didn't and i think i burnt mine up... does you gauge go up and then down or just stays up and never goes down??? i would suggest replacing the thermostat. a partialy opened one will no help ur problem. also... the hoses. make sure that bottom one has a spring in it. if ur not sure... replace it. this is all assuming ur gauge is right

I have a stewert warner temp. gage in my truck. Comp. to the factory gage it is way off. the factory gage under a heavey load up hill will get 3/4 the stewert warner says 215. just my 2cents worth
